Indys c1

Hey yall, been awhile since i done a build thread. Figured id share my class 1 build with yuns. I plan to go to scale nats in april, so ive got plenty of time to get this one done.

I got a gspeed v1c1 chassis from our good buddy twade the other day. Thanks again brother, much appreciated! Ive gotta get a servo mount for the chassis. Believe ill get the dual servo mount so i can put the winch servo up front as well.

Ive got a scx10.2 roller sittin on the shelf thatll make a good donor rig. The axles are new, never seen the trail. Think ill get a set of o/d gears for the front axle. Ive got a good 3 gear trans that i had in my m/t build a few yrs ago. Ive also got a fmm, but would need to get a transfer case, short shaft, n the mounts for the fmm itself. My other option would be to go with one of my favs, the vfd. Love that trans in my gspeed v3 n my vstrx4 builds. It performs well, low slung motor, optional o/d gear sets, wat more could u ask for lol.

The body is a tamiya f350 hardbody. It was my first body for the 10.2 i built 3 yrs ago?. But i may switch it up for a yota hardbody, idk yet. But i would like to do an interior, for scale points if anything.

Electronics, im goin for the castle mamba x. Which i got from another member here. Thanks again tanis! N im either goina run the castle slate 2850kv or the HH torquemaster 2700kv, not sure yet. One will go in this build, the other will go in the vstrx4. For the steering, i think ill pick up another nitro pro servo. Theyre quick n have plenty of torque. N the servo winch ill definantly go with a 3bros.

I e got 2 sets of 1.9 wheels, but i may pick up a new set. One set is a cheap set of alum beadlocks with rc4wd slingers, the other set is the plastic incision wheels from the vs4 kit n a set of ottsix klr m/ts (red i believe). Really leanin toward the klrs but maybe a set of alum beadlocks instead.

Im goina get a set of itw hi clearance links as well.

Any n all suggestions are welcome. Ill do my best to post up pics as i go n give yall updates. Its goina b a slow build, so sit back n enjoy...https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...9df656a5e4.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...ad34f69e14.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c947c39c65.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...de2dee2796.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...b8029e3b85.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...cdcb289321.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...64773f1c98.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e433a05f32.jpg

You’ve got a great start already, and I look forward to seeing this chassis built (and actually used, unlike when I owned it).

I vote for the klrs, and I think the incision wheels wouldn’t look too bad either.

Also I’d vote for keeping the super duty body, one for the paint job, and two because it’s not as common as the hilux. Either way though, glad you started a thread on it [emoji1360]

Thanks tom! Itll definantly get used, esspecially wen i get the back corner of the yard cleaned up. Me n sage, my pit, have been workin on it off n on weather permitting lol.

I like the super duty myself. Had a 01 f250 crew cab, 7.3 powerstroke, 4x4. Man i miss that truck.

Think the incision wheels would look good with the super duty body. Found a set of alum ones on the bay that look almost like the ones ive gothttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...3c7bfd6c1c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...913c327d63.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...edcef8fb6a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...54e930ec4a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...14aaef6f23.jpg

I agree to all of the above:ror:

Good lookin SD Indybama. I'm a truck guy, so I love them older trucks, especially a single cab dually Highboy"thumbsup"

And not to ignore the build! I like this idea.

Thanks SNL! Depends on the yr as to single, supercab, or crewcab. But a dually build would b cool.

I forgot, but im gettin a HH shv500v3 servo. So it may go in this build, not sure yet.

The pic of my crewcab is from wen i lived in FL. N sage isnt always that dirty lol. She goes n plays in the natural stream out back n comes back lookin like that. Shes such a big baby lol

Re: Indys c1

Got to piddlin with the c1 yesterday n got the donor chassis tore down. N started on the gspeed chassis. Ive still gotta get the dual servo mount, hi clearance links n a trans yet.

Its sittin on a cobbled together set of links for now just to get a good visual of wat itll look like. The wb is off a bit. If i line up the front tires, the backs are a bit to far back. But thats hopefully just the links ive got under it at the moment. If i can find the front bumper, i know its floatin around here somewhere, its goina need alot of trimming. The front tires will rub really bad, that was the issue wen it was on my 10.2 as well. But i dont want to have to raise the body much to clear the tires. Really wanna run the f350 body, but if i cant make it work ive got a PW body...

Goina give these desert lizard shocks a go for now. Got a short med spring on top n a shorter soft spring on the bottom. They dont feel to stiff so we'll see.

The wheels are goina need some 225 hubs to bring them in a bit. Way to wide for the body, but ive got an idea for flaring the fenders a bit more than stock. There again, i may order a different set of wheels too...

Wat do yall think so far? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...779f64004d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...5ad95ebf42.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d0e26bb92a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...183acaf288.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...6fd07d8fae.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...499bd94eb8.jpg

Yeah, looks like a great deal and it's going to look great with the F350 body!

Man, I would love to go to Scale Nats! But all the great events are either way south of me or out west on that incredible terrain they have! Someday maybe, someday!!!!!;-)

Just a small update for those that are keepin up.

I ordered the dsm n hardbody sliders from gspeed a few weeks ago. Finally got around to gettin them installed. Looks like ill have to do some body surgery to gey the body mounts to line up. Nothin to major, just notch the bed for the shocks n shock towers. Its comin along slowly, but its gettin there lol

Hopefully be ordering the links in the next week or sohttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...fc9db8f412.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...79522d246f.jpg

Re: Indys c1

Finally got an update on this build. Its been awhile, ive been tryin to gather up some parts. Hard part was deciding on a body.

I got with our good buddy twade awhile back n picked up a set of phoenix axles. Think ill snag another set down the road, if i dont just buy another kit instead lol

Then i picked up some 80mm incision shocks from another fellow addict, xloneonex. Havent had the incision shocks yet, are they pretty good? Any leaks?

Then today, the body finally arrived! Its been a hard decision. Ive been lookin for somethin different. Theres tons of yotas n jeep hardbodies, i did look at the bronco from club5, but theres the trx4 bronco... The body i picked is kinda yota lookin, more so the bed imo. Yet i think it kinda looks like the ford courior n maybe even the ol chevy luv.

The next thing is paint. Thinkin a 2 tone brown, wat do yall think? Any suggestions on color?

Thats all i have on this for now. Goina snag some links from a donor truck tomorrow n get the axles mounted under it. Ill get more pics as i go along. Scale nats is comin up quick, n im just gettin on this one. Plus the phoenix needs paint yet smh.

Heres a few pics of the body sittin on the v3 phoenix. I plan on a bit more narrow stance with this build. The phoenix has .350 hubs, im goina try n run .225shttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...deabfc137d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...2646c273b6.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...16c0c824b9.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...da70ba047b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...ba462bc790.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f96b9aea24.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...5c240a991c.jpg

I cant either! Goina get started pullin links in a bit n atleast get a roller started. Still not sure how im goina do the interior yet. Hat to hack up the floor pan, butbit just wont fit over the vfd otherwise. Hopefully wont need to take alot out of it, but we'll see

indybama 02-27-2022 04:48 PM

Re: Indys c1

As promised, heres another update for yall. I ended up snaggin the links from the vstrx4. Had to find another front upper link, but no big deal. I love how smooth these gspeed chassis go together. Already started gainin points too lol, snagged the metal sliders n the vs4 plastic slider trays from the vstrx4.

I had to cut the floor of the cab, mainly the center console. But i cut just enuf to fit snug around the vfd. Ill b able to use the shift style top plate for the vfd, which i think is pretty cool.

I did have to hack the inner fenders a bit too, but they fit rather well. I didnt get any pics of before n after of the fenders. But when i get to the electronics, yall will see i cut quite a bit.

I was in hopes of bein able to use the front bumper as a body mount, but it pulls the front doen to much. So ill have to figure out a bracket. The front bumper sits perfectly on top of the chassis rails. Also have to figure out how im goina mount the cab yet too. Got a pretty good idea in mind. Ill get to the bed later on this week or over the weekend.

Ive got to get a new set of tires, thinkin the PL km3. The SSD 5 slots look good with the body imo, but would like a set of VP 105s. As for electronics, thinkin maybe another mamba x n the slate 2850kv, or maybe a HH pp 2700kv... Id love to find a good deal on another HH shv500v3 servo.

More updates as parts come in. Thanks for lookin yall! Now on with pics...

Making some good progress! Great choice on the body. There is something about this body that just looks cool and I’ve always thought about picking one up someday. Can’t wait to see it painted!

Good luck on the Incision shocks. I’ve had 2 sets of them now that came with my Origin and PRO and had a hell of a time getting them to hold oil. Replaced them with Traxxas GTS shocks. Just recently I pulled the Incisions out of the spare parts bin to try on another build. This time I did get them to be leak free and they’re pretty smooth too!

Thanks brian! I really like this body as well. Really didnt wanna buy the whole kit just to get it, but sometimes we gotta do wat we gotta do lol. I was lookin at it last night thinkin of how to lay down some paint lines. Was kinda thinkin of the old square body 2 tone, but bodylines arent there for that. Maybe a ford 2 tone design?

Still have to get the body mounted to the chassis. Hopefully it wont be to long n ill have the bed mocked up. Got a feelin im goina have to cut the batt tray from tge bed, think its goina b in the way of the upper links. But ive got a wooden crate (granted its plastic...) I could mount at the front of the bed for the batt to go. Ill have to run a micro servo winch somewhere towards the back or get a bumper made for a realistic lookin winch. The only place the esc will fit is beside the steering servo.

Im hopeful these incisions shocks dont leak. But if they do, ive got a set of gts on the donor rig. I kinda like how it sits low with the 80mm, but if need be, the 90mm will have to do

B-MOW71 02-28-2022 06:29 AM

Re: Indys c1

Nice, sounds like a good idea on the paint.

I found on my Incision's that the leak was coming from an inner o-ring that is in a cartridge that unscrews out of the bottom of the shock body. I had no idea there were o-rings in there. I green slimed them and gently put them back in and knock-on-wood, no leaks so far.

My normal goto shock is the GTS and recently I've been loving the Enduro shocks. But now after having the S8E shocks on the Phoenix and seeing how smooth they are, I may pick up another set for my next build.

Thanks for the heads up brian, ill keep an eye on them. I love the gts shocks. They stick wen u first use them after sittin awhile, but are smooth after that. Havent got to run the s8e shocks yet, but they seem to b pretty smooth as well. I did order the gmade rsd shock collars for mine, so much nicer. Havent had a chance to try out the element shocks yet.

Thank u mr ernie, much appreciated! Im tryin to take my time n do it right. Have u checked out "the bama phoenix" build yet? Gspeed v3 blue cf chassis using the phoenix kit. Still have to get it painted yet. Cant wait to run it!

I loved that axle u built for me. It worked great, but i think i got it bound up a few to many times. Ended up wollarin the screw holes where the tubes went into the chunk. Never could get them to hold tight afterwards.

Ill keep yall updated on the twins. Cant wait til they get here!

Re: Indys c1

Evenin everybody, got a small update. Been workin on the body the past few days n have it pretty well lined out.

First off, i had to do some axle swappin. The f10s were to wide to get the tires tucked under the body enuf to pass c1 rules. So i swapped them with the VP pro rear and the ssd pro44 offset front from my c2 rig. Now the tires sit nicely under the fenders enuf to pass.

After i chopped the center out of the floor to clear the vfd trans, i got a trans tunnel made. Its a bit wonkey, but its there lol. Didnt have any styrene, so had to get creative with wat i have.

I got the bed cut for the shock towers, kickin my butt for the mess up smh. I shouldve done the towers first, then cut for the shocks. Instead, i marked n cut for the base of the towers n shocks, not thinkin the inner fenders would cover quite a bit ore than i needed to cut. But this was the first bed ive modded to fit like this. Live n learn i guess...

Ive managed to get some paint layed on the body the past few mornings. Definantly need to get some fine grit n wet sand it. Theres a few runs, which arent bad, but noticable. Not to mention it looks like either dirt or a few tiny bubbles popped here n there. Im goin for a 2 tone kinda like the old fords had. So this is just the first of a few steps.

Im goina go for a poll answer here, so i need yalls help. I ask our good buddy twade this mornin for his thoughts on which shade. So im askin yall... Which shade of the darker brown should i go with? It kinda hard to decide, theyd both go good with the lighter color. N the front n back bumpers will b painted to match the darker color. Wat about the grille? Should i color match with the lighter color? Or got for the brushed look?

Thanks in advance for all the input fellars!

Oh, also picked up some SSD hubs with rotors n the scale hardware for them. Ive got a set of bronze VP bully wheels comin from our other good buddy fricker for this build. Still need to decide on tires. Use the voodoo klr m/t in the pic or get the km3s?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4d023330cc.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...86aa052487.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d71a658faa.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...11c2ac0efb.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...12c2c67b28.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...3bfa1af959.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e8691909be.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c613c46638.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...8c1aa6c1ff.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d8ae06ab1b.jpg

Coming along nicely Bama. The grill on that Demon body has always caught my eye. I think I like the shape of it. It also reminds me of the old Datsun pickups, though I can't say for how strong the resemblance actually is.

The F10's are such a nice axle. I think you are onto it with the idea of some PL KM3's. Good tires that I think will suit the truck.

The two tone brown will match your shit-kickers:ror:

Cool unique body choice! I’m starting to like the non licensed bodies on the market. I thought for sure I’d change the body on my TRX4 Sport, but once I painted it and set it on the chassis I liked it.

Can’t wait to see this body all painted up and assembled.

Thanks smog! I like the look of it as well, the grille reminds me of the old wagoneer. I wanted to use the f10s, but theyre just a bit to wide. Really leanin towards the km3s.

Sln, im with u on the bodies. Everybody runs jeeps n yotas, i wanted somethin different. Only bad part of this body, u have to buy the whole kit just to get it. But it feels like really good quality plastic.

Its been 70s durin the day n 50s at night. Now theyre callin for daggum snow for fri smh. I was in hopes that winter weather was gone. So it may be a week or so before i can lay some more paint. Ive got an idea for a batt box n a way to hide the shock towers, but more on that to come

Got some paint done today. Had an issue in one spot with the darker brown. So i got it sanded down, just have to retape n try again. Im really likin the darker brown, thanks for yall opinion on that!

Before yall ask lol, yes, i painted in the house. No worries, the wife n kids were at the inlaws. Ive got majority of the body put together, other than repaintin the front fender.

Ive got parts on order to hopefully get this rig goin. I got a nice set of bronze VP 1.9 bully wheels from our good buddy fricker, much appreciated brother! Have a copperhead10 in the crawler edition flavor ordered, white case. Snagged a set of PL bfg km3s to wrap those sweet lookin wheels. For foams, im goina try out the powerhobby dual stage for the 3.85-4.19 tires.

I need a batt box for this truck n ive had an idea. Ive looked online for somethin that would work, but looks like ill have more luck buildin one. So ive gotta order some popcicle sticks lol. Goina make a wooden crate batt box. Maybe even a couple to cover the shock towers as well. But more on that later on.

The body has a light kit that came with it. So ive got it all installed in the buckets. Head, tail, marker n dash lights.

Thats about all i have at the moment, but heres some pics of progress.

One more thing though... With or without mudflaps? I cant decide...https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4e38fd734f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d35ce9655f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...3f166ae7d6.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...6c27de649f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...a93566d472.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...21d4db9cbc.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d5e844d4b6.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...a50a0a3f81.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e565e6287c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...7e41a7aeb5.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...82a8d712ba.jpg
