Default Another FJ40….

Another FJ40….

I started this build with a used K2-3s chassis, touring car shocks and a really used bushwacker body. Here are the pics from when I first received it….

I built up a set of TLT axles with bearings. Rear axle has a
Unimoger straight axle adapter. Front axle has Fat Rock axle C’s and aluminum knuckles. I made all the links out of brake line, 6-32 all thread and Traxxas Rod ends. I'm still not decided on wheels and tires these are for mock up purposes right now...

A couple with the body mounted...

I then proceeded into my first attempt at brazing tubing. I brazed up a front bumper and some rock slider. I think they came out good for my first try...

Here they are mounted up...

Here's the last set of pics for now... added a little detailing to the body.

Well that's all I have for now, let me know what you think.

looks good... if you want to cap those tube ends here is an easy way to do it:

find a 6/32 tap, and run it down in the tube.
get a 6/32 bolt and screw it in.
cut the head off the bolt.
done.

very hard to do with braze.

if you have a band saw, cut it so the blade is tightening the bolt into the tube if that makes sense....

That looks great! Just don't let the tyres let the looks down

Can you please take a side pic and measure your wheelbase?

Well I decided to put the Giant Mudders back out behind the garage... I decided to put some nice CAC wheels on this one . Wrapped in RC4WD rubber, this is what it looks like now...

Once RPP gets some 1.9 Crushers back in stock I'll be ordering up 5 of those because I started on a rear bumper. I got the idea from the Man-a-Fre site. This rig will also be getting the new CAC SlotMags when they arrive.

I still need my cooler to come in and pick up a nice highlift jack so I can fab up the other side but here is what I have so far...
I started with two pieces of square stock and some tubing.
After it was brazed I cut the top one in half.

Then I cut it all up and made it open and close.

Here it is mounted up with the latch system installed.

I mounted the spare tire mount next. It's made from tubing with 1/8 solid rod inside it for added strength. The nut fits inside the hex on the spare.

Here it is with the tire on it...

And opened so you can still get in the back doors...

Just a side view...

And one last one showing the wheelbase for those who asked. It's right at 11"

Now that this rig is wearing 1.9's if a Mod reads this can you please move it to the right section for me. Thanks:nice:

It still sits kind of high with the 1.9's. I'm going to lower it some more but I've also been toying with the idea of building a complete chassis for this so it will look more scale than the K2 does... we'll see how it goes. I'm burning my fingers like mad with this whole brazing thing.

Lol. A more scale looking chassis will look better. Good luck with it.

I took out the dremel and ended up with this...

I'm still going to use the center of the K2. I made a new upper link mount... I borrowed the idea from the Dinky Link.

I tried TLT shocks but I just can't seem to get them to hold this thing up.

So I threw on some Big Bores.

Here's a couple with the body on.

Nevermind the front, it has a long way to go but it's a start..

Well I went a little crazy on the poor K2 chassis with the dremel and ended up having to make new side plates. Finally found a use for the stock TLT chassis!

I also got some work done on the front but it still needs a lot more.

I need to remove the bottom tube to make room for the shocks and tires. They rub the tubes. But the bumper is connected to the bottom tube so I can't remove it until I come up with a better way to mount it to the top tube. Now I know why you are supposed to draw these things out before you start. This last pic is how it should sit once the axle is in place.
