Default Reign K2 3L F-100 build

Here is my first ground up build attempt. Work has been crazy so this has been in the making for a while now. I was going to cap this off with a Dodge Mega Cab body but after a mock up I didnt like the way it looked at all. I am not much of a Ford guy but have always liked the '70's Ford trucks (my dad had a sweet two tone '76 F250 longbed when I was a kid) and didnt see too many of the Pro Line F100 builds on here. This is more of a semi scale build as I dont have the skills and patience like alot of you guys on here, amazing builds.

Here's the goods:
Hitec 5955 servo
AX 10 axles
Pede trans, metal gears
Integy 35t
Pro Line Flat Irons
Pro Line beadlocks w/ 4oz up front, 1oz out back
CKRC bent links out back
Traxxas steel revo rods up front
Traxxas alloy revo rods for uppers
Pede steel yokes
HR rear straight axle
Alloy front c's and spindles...

A little mock up shot with the body

Added a few pre build pics:

I need to do a little tweaking still and then get started on electronics.
Big thanks to Kaetwo and Reign for there awesome chassis and VERY detailed build documents, really helps a noob builder like me. My next rig (if I ever finish this one ) will be one of their comp chassis.
Any advise is much appreciated!

Had a chance to stop at Ace before they closed tonight. Picked up the all thread and K&S tubing for the steering, also some sheet metal to mount the bumpers on. I was planning on using the 5955 servo out of my Pede and getting something different for it, but my lhs had some Hobbico servo's in, I alway try to support them first. Its a HCAM0316, its a 5955 with a different sticker on it and a little less $$ than the Hitec . Got a started on the steering linkage, servo's in and set the batt in for fit.

The Rooster set in for fit. I want to stay on the performance side so its going on the back axle.

A little shot with a Pede body on for poops and laughs

Hopefully I will get it all wired up in the next couple of days. Still waiting on some lights I ordered on Ebay and a few other things. Going camping on Friday so I need to be up and running Thursday night.

Well made a noob mistake, didnt catch it until today. The servo/battery front plate wont work with chassis.

Thanks guys!

I drilled out the stock servo plate and mounted it. Got the steering linkage built and mounted the Rooster.

Need to pick up some black 4-40 screws the blue one looks bad

Cut out some styrene, think I will just velcro the battery to that. Tested for fit now I need to paint it.

Hopefully I can mount the bumpers and get it wired tomorrow night.

Being a Ford guy and having built a few of these K2 chassis I'll offer you some advice. You could use the long front servo battery mount up front. Just drill some new shock mounting holes further forward mount your shocks vertically or close to it and remove the springs. That will give you, no up travel therefore no battery, servo chassis interference. Also I'd recommend lowering the body down as far as you can get it and trim it till everything clears. It will perform much better that way. Here's a pic of mine with the
F100 body to give you an idea. Here you see how low mine sits on the chassis and how much I trimmed, though running 2.2's you'll most likely need to trim more.

If you have any questions regarding your K2 build please feel free to ask.

Thanks rckjeep for the advise. That would have been a good solution to keep my battery low. That Ford looks great, really glad I picked up red paint at the lhs instead of blue!

Kaetwo thanks for the compliment, this chassis is awesome. I recommend it to anyone that is going to build a scale/trail crawler

I came back from camping a day early, way too hot this weekend. Now I have tomorrow to get more done on the rig. Also, do you guys think a 3s 1250 pack will work well with this or do I need a little more mAH? I have a couple of 2s 1900 packs I used in my Mini LST also.

Thanks for the advise and comment's, they are appreciated!

Had some time to sit down and get it all wired up. Mounted the Rooster and rx, I'm a big zip tie fan (zip ties and duck tape). Had a chance to give it a spin outside to check everything, very happy. Now I need to go through and thread lock some things and get the bumper mounts cut and mounted. Oh and the body work not my favorite thing to do.

Thanks jcrawl but the blue truck is rckjeep's , he was using it as an example for me. And yeah its sweet!

Bumper mounts are cut and bumpers mounted.

There not perfect but are functional. Should I paint them black or keep them like that? Now its time to start trimming the body...

Default ITS DONE! (for now...)

Well spent some time the last few day finishing up the Ford. Used two Simpson straps from work to mount the body on with velcro, this Reign chassis is awesome it allows you to bolt up anything you need. The velcro works great holds the body on tight, mounted the batteries on a cut piece of foam board over the front axle.

Some body off shots.

Back shock are a little stiff but I have a new set ordered. I will post up some clearer pics later this week and maybe a lttle video.

A little video shot with my digital camera. This is a small creek down the street from my house, good for a little trail run. The dirt is slick but the truck did well while I was there.

Sorry the vid kinda sucks and is short but it shows a little of how she runs.

Thanks JEFFDUDE. I really didnt want to drill holes in the body, and a couple strips of velcro are amazingly strong.

I forgot to mention the glitch with Rooster as seen in the video. You guys have any advise on that? I will check the electronics forum also.

I think I will cut up the Dodge Mega Cab body big time, then mount that with side body post's to maybe run in a local comp. I would really like to see how it does against other rigs (and drivers). The Simpson strap body mounts raise the cg a little and without them and a lower body I think this K2 3L is very capable. Great job Reign
