Default Exceed Maxstone10 speed machine

So my nephew was given a max10. It's not that awesome, so we decided we're gonna make it haul ass. I bought a 2200 kw castle creations motor and sidewinder esc. It says it's capable of 6s, i told him he's gotta buy the batteries, he's pretty set on 6s. I'm thinking shorter shocks to get the ride height down and some lower profile "street" routes. Do you guys have any other thoughts? Things we should look at replacing? Or goal is about 60mph.

I meant "street" tires. I also don't know why the sentence got doubled.

I'm just trying to figure out why someone would pour that much money into an RC that came out over 10 years ago, is discontinued by several years, and only cost $150 when it was a current model.

My recommendation is to get something newer. If you break anything in that vehicle, you'll be hard-pressed to find any replacement parts.

I agree with panther go pick up a redcat blackout for cheap there on sale right now leave the crawler as a crawler your not gonna have a good time putting that kinda power through that drivetrain
First you will eat the middle gear in the trans then the lockers in the axles axle shafts driveshafts
Then your gonna want a new chassis to get the weight as low as possible
By the time your done your gonna spend more than as n the rig is worth and still won't hit your goal
The blackout pro will do that out of the box if you can control it lol

There's also the losi sct that's dirt cheap right now its 2wd but it will kick but over the exceed for less than it will cost to upgrade it and you would be able to control it at speed

Well mostly because we have it, it works, and that's what my nephew wants to do with it. Plus it's free. I can definitely appreciate that is old and parts aren't available, if they ever were. If parts break, I'll just replace with what's available, and make it work. I'm not worried about that part.

Keep it for what it is. I would be willing to bet the drivetrain wouldn't last a full battery pack. that power combo would shred a lot of stuff.

Buy the combo anyways but put it in something that will do what you want it to do, and survive.

You will absolutely not hit 60mph.

On 6s the driveshafts are going to explode, the gears in the axles are going to strip and even if you somehow managed to get it past 30mph+ you will lose control, flip the car and destroy it.

I say go for it, but please take a video

Oh my god what is with all the wet blankets in this thread? Even after he explained its a free R/C he doesn't mind breaking and its something he can do with his nephew.

To some people this hobby is about fun. To others, it's about gatekeeping.

Trying to stop the guy from spending alot of money for nothing and invest that in a rig that has a snowballs chance at meeting there goals

The maxstone 10 is a ax10 clone same rig as a redcat everest 10 so it would need a chassie with proper link geomitry

Would need new links

New driveshafts

New axles

New transmission and compatable skid plate

Tires and wheels

He could get away with just limiting the stock shocks and he could use the body but thats about all that he can use from the original truck

And at that point just build a truck that can go fast or buy one made for that and save money

Ive been down the exceed road i have a maxstone 16 and a maxstone 5 and a redcat e10 in my colection of cheap rcs so im not bashing the brand just speaking from exsperiance

I would consider the advice to get a more suitable rc car for the speed project to be wise and the best idea....

And yet I have enjoyed some of my most spectacular failures a lot more than most of my successes.

Go whichever way you want and have fun with it!

I had one of these(by HSP..same RC). Wanted to go cheap, ended up spending more money than if I had bought a proper RC in the first place. Wanted a scale truck, just used the axles in the end.. Want to go fast? people are doing speed runs with 2wd buggies and SCTs. If you don't want a specialized speed machine like the Vendetta above, there's people modding even Tamiya TT01 and TT02 to go fast
