gorgo's Aussie TT Tundra Hey guys, i've been wanting to build a Tuff Truck (Aussie Top Truck style comp) style 2.2 for quite a while now. But didn't to a 40 or jeep, or anything common over here. Seeing as i'm usually a fan of yankee iron, and i don't have a welder and minimal time at the moment doing a 100% scratch build was out of the question. I stumbled across a Tundra for sale on here, which already had the tube work done and the body work started (by desert RC) . Perfect! A deal was struck and it was shipped over. Got it with diffs, tranny, shafts. etc. virtually a roller minus wheels. Here's a few pics of Desert RC's build before i got hold of it. http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...ndra/141-1.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...ndra/124-2.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...ndra/142-2.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...Tundra/164.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...Tundra/164.jpg Once it landed the first thing i did was chuck on the 2.2 rok lox that i have had sitting here for a while. Then changed out the shocks for some 3 racing's i have had for ages out of my old comp rig (setup for semi droop). The alloy cased HR tranny went in along with the MIP shafts, and alloy knuckles and C's on the front. For the moment the steering servo is a turnigy 767HV, if it dies a spare 7955tg will probably go in. http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...DSC07742-1.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...DSC07734-1.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...DSC07742-1.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...DSC07735-1.jpg For electrics it's a MM Pro , Novak 13.5 turn balistic, CC BEC, a TZI duel RX bypass harness. http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...DSC07738-1.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...DSC07740-1.jpg Next up was a vanquish dig seeing as i'm not intending to be running rear steer (unless i modify the chassis to fit it). After spending a considerable amount of time filing the tabs down on the HR tranny the dig finally fitted, then bolted the tranny in to find the shift lever on the dig was hitting the skid  http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...DSC07737-1.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...DSC07741-1.jpg Planning on doing as much of an interior as i can possibly fit whicle still having the central tranny etc. More pics to come! |
Re: gorgo's Aussie TT Tundra Clean rig! I like it "thumbsup" A lot of the guys in my club run that motor/esc combo and it seems to perform really well. |
Re: gorgo's Aussie TT Tundra Hey mate, im from australia too and just wanted to say the trucks looks and and youve certainly got that tuff truck look, its such a great comp. |
Re: gorgo's Aussie TT Tundra Thanks guys. Highmark, yeah it seems to be a popular combo. A friend of mine over here is running one in his truck too. Just contemplating changing the motor to a 18.5 turn and running 4 cell  |
Re: gorgo's Aussie TT Tundra Very nice truck! I love the lines!!!! |
Re: gorgo's Aussie TT Tundra Subscribed!"thumbsup" |
Re: gorgo's Aussie TT Tundra cant wait to see more progress and looks like you got a good deal on that body |
Re: gorgo's Aussie TT Tundra This is really cool lookin! I am looking forward to this"thumbsup" |
Re: gorgo's Aussie TT Tundra I got a little bit further with mounting the body / interior... not much but it's a start. I think i'll look at making a mini servo bracket for the dig too... not really liking the dig servo sitting out behind the cab. http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...a/DSC07746.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...a/DSC07745.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...a/DSC07747.jpg |
Re: gorgo's Aussie TT Tundra Hey i recently got a VP Hurtz dig also, same problem. I just ground the side of the frame off a bit and it works perfect. Best 93 bucks I've ever spent. You'll love that dig. Smooth, no binding, american made quality. |
Re: gorgo's Aussie TT Tundra Well it's been waaaay too long since updates on this between the wedding, dislocated shoulder etc etc etc. It is now officially a runner, with the body mounted. 8) The mini servo mount for the dig arrived so got that put in and started to put the rear of the cab on and blending it in. Came out ok so far. Still needs a good tidyup though. I didn't get many pics during the fabrication of it, but hopefuly the pics give a hint to want went on. With the mini dig servo in, it's still a very tight fit. http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...a/DSC08403.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...a/DSC08406.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...a/DSC08407.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...a/DSC08413.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...a/DSC08414.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...a/DSC08416.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...a/DSC08418.jpg As you can see the dig servo only just fits. http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...a/DSC08419.jpg Got the winch stickered up http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...a/DSC08408.jpg Got the lighting system plugged in and working http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...a/DSC08410.jpg Thats a Gear head LED light bar adn the axial lighting system. Still trying to figure out how and were to mount the lights... http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...a/DSC08411.jpg Hiding all those electrics while still haveing an interior might be a bit tricky. And to cap off this update. A few flex shots  http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...a/DSC08420.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...a/DSC08421.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...a/DSC08422.jpg Still have to fit out the interior, possibly make some seats becaus the Axial ones i have may be a little wide to fit. Considering a RHD conversion, mount the winch, and lights. And figure out a paint scheme. If anyone has any pointers or suggestions, i'm all ears. |
Re: gorgo's Aussie TT Tundra Nice to see you back on this one! We're here."thumbsup" |
Re: gorgo's Aussie TT Tundra Sweet looking build... I love the look of the Tundras. |
Re: gorgo's Aussie TT Tundra I'm working in the same thing with my tundra truggy. I'm going to sink the light bar down a little lower and mount it to my interior roll cage to minimize rollover damage. I'm using the maddogrc one. It's taking some figuring, but it should work out. I like the body mount idea coming from the bottom. Sharp thinking there! Nice progress!"thumbsup" |
Awesome. Creative styrene work. Super clean, well done build. |
Re: gorgo's Aussie TT Tundra Thanks guys. Bulldog, have you got any oics of your lightbar mount? I was debating whether or not it would fit neatley and look right. |
Re: gorgo's Aussie TT Tundra I won't have anything until next week sometime...maybe two. I'll try to post up when it's done. 8) |
Re: gorgo's Aussie TT Tundra Another small update. Filled in the front guards a little, i didn't think it looked quite right having such a sharp corner just behind the wheel http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...a/DSC08470.jpg I got the false floor in to hide the remainder of the wireing http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...a/DSC08471.jpg And the shocks arrived. http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...a/DSC08472.jpg |
Re: gorgo's Aussie TT Tundra They are softish, i mounted them up last night and they didn;t droop anywhere near as much as the ones on it in these pics. I'll upload some with the new shocks. |
