Your workshop looks like the cave that Tony Stark made his first suit. Hope no welding sparks would hit your unprotected feet and arms.

i think it looks great! i can't believe you didn't burn through that steel with that ARC welder though, good job! thread hijack: I can't really say much negative regarding your workspace or personal protective equipment because BY FAR, you've got more than I ever saw when I was visiting the Philippines earlier this year. We hired the local "welder" to fab some security doors for my grandma's house...guy's welding equipment consisted of: OLD buzzbox ARC welder, the power leads to the welder were at least 100-150ft long perhaps 12 or 14 gauge wire with many splices in it (oh, and there was no plug on the end - just cram the bare wire in a 220v outlet or directly to breakers - which are made with extremely cheap and brittle pot metal), the grounding clamp was a chewed up hook that had maybe 2 wire strands intact connecting to the hook. his welding attire consisted of NO GOGGLES or helmet (just eyelids and lashes), flip flops, he at least had long pants but his "welding jacket" was a pair of long sleeves cut off a shirt that he'd put over his forearms. now THAT was a sight to see and this guy was a "professional" and welding/metal fab was his trade. we cringed at the work he was doing as he had major sight issues from welding with no goggles, so we taught him a few basic things while we were there...almost a year later he's still asking about us and is thankful for the brief education on safety and how welding is done in the rest of the world. I might have to scrounge up some pics for the WTF thread. |

for $20 or so you can get a harbor freight auto darkening helmet. They're probably even cheaper in thailand. I've had welders flash bad a couple times and it hurts! and it's bad for your vision. Ive been to the ER and begged them for numbing drops. I couldnt keep my eyes open and it fealt like I had sand in my eyes

Is that a mini stick welder? He's doing a pretty darn good job if it is. I've seen way worse jobs with a mig and proper welding gear. You do need to at least get a welding helmet you well be blind in no time

Lmao.....most people knick their fingers with the grinder, not their toe! In all fairness you did a nice job especially for using a stick welder. Hope all is well with your toe....... |
