So, forgot i had bought some FabTabs and picked up some m3 nuts to silver solder to the chassis so i can start doing some panels.

Well, that failed miserably as i wound up just welding screws (used to hold the nut in place) to the nut and nothing sticking to the chassis

Then, brilliant me rememberd i had a baggy full of each of the fab tab designs (just not threaded yet) so going to thread the tabs tomorrow and then silver solder the tabs on the chassis for the panels

Then it'll be time to clean up all the welds (Did what i could with the angle grinder and wire wheel brush) now i have a bag of 10 small wire wheels from ebay for the dremel. Then it's off to powder coating
Oh and small note, i felt like i was hit by a porcupine when i was done with the wire wheel brushes. I had little metal wires sticking out of me all over the place

Now begins the saving up for the motor and ESC. I've seen Mamba Max Pros go for as little as $65 on ebay, just need the funding.

Also missed out on a used Pro4 motor for $80 local but it sold already

Long sleeves yes, but i was doing it outside (meant hot) so i was just wearing a t-shirt, but even then, the little buggers stuck through my shirt

I'll be getting a blasting cabinet when i have a house with a garage for future use

threaded all my fab tabs so they're ready to go in the future.

Welded in 2 per side panel and cut some flashing panels as well as a plexiglass firewall

Also trimmed the Dingo interior (cut down the middle to fit into the cage) - this will be a temp interior until i can get an HPI apache interior

Going to list all my deadbolt stuff on ebay to try and recoop some money for some more upgrades (IE chassis, body, stock eletronics and motor)

Next round will get MIPS, OD/HD front ring and pinion as well as HD stock tooth rear ring and pinion and Locked up RC spools front and rear.

That should cover the breakables i hope.




Also, change of plans for motor, i still plan on running a Mamba Max Pro esc, but instead of the Pro4, i think i'll give the Holmes Hobbies brushless inrunner sensored trail master 3100kv motor.

John says it should have enough go to do what i want, but not an insane amount that i'm breaking parts every run. (Unless you think with the upgrades i've got already and have planned, would she take the Pro4?)

You need to plan on going to a 32p pinion and spur setup with either motor. That Holmes motor will eat up the 48p stuff in a hurry and the Pro4 will do it just as fast. I have both and dollar for dollar they are pretty equal, the Holmes is a little cheap and also a little lighter on torque. I have been super happy running it so far, and threw a second one in another rig to test this weekend.

Already running 32p (with spares in my go-bag) so one check box done

And thanks for confirming what John said. Looks like the motor to get for my applications. I don't mind having a little less torque than a pro4 (since it's already monstrous)

Quick cutout of some flashing in the scraps bin for a hood and a chunk of black Delrin i'll machine for 3 2.5" light bars (two in the windshield area at the top and one down in the grille) using CrawlerDad V2 LEDs

Looks good, I'd go with the Pro4, you can always use less throttle finger, but once you have a motor...well that's the motor you're running. "thumbsup"

So after 2 rebuilds on the stock deadbolt shocks (using green slime on orings) one leaked out again. So tonight, the scx10 is donating it's big bores. Going to try how the losi mini Springs work but may go back to full size progressive springs instead.

Also looking at brushed motors to run for the time being since I haven't finished upgrading for brushless yet.
Holmes hobbies crawl master expert 13th seems to fit the bill


edit: Just won an ebay auction for $36 and got some Gmade piggybacks 2 at 103mm legnth and 2 at 85mm so i will test both to see if i want a lower ride height or not (plus whichever i chose to use, i can order the matching but use the unused on the slash)

They sell these for SC trucks, so i would hope these can standup to brushless rock racing/bashing

Swapped the big bore / mini t spring combo to the Ibex which resulted in a nice drop in ride height. Had to bend the steering link as I was hitting the chassis before full compression

But after a little test run I'm loving the lower ride height

No pics to update, just status

I have a Mamba Max Pro en route (traded my 5" LED bar and some cash for it) so now i need to pickup a cheap sensored motor for the time being.

Also got in touch with a local RC guy that also welds, so he said he'll be able to weld on the M3 nuts to the chassis instead of trying to silver solder them on for body panels.

Ordered HD OD gears and hot racing diff lock for the front axle (Already has beef tubes and CVD's) so front axle is done.

As the paypal balance fills again i'll order the HD stock gearing and another diff lock for the rear axle

Now, after inspecting after the run, managed to bend the front bumper bar which is 3/16" stainless tubing (Nice solid hit on a rock) as well as bent the tie rod 3/16" not stainless rod to mention ground a crap load of the axle already

My buddy in Orlando picked up a Tekin Pro4 4000kv motor for me for $50 last night, so hopefully he'll drop it in the mail today. Then it's time to destroy the stock driveshafts
