DISTURBIN' tha PEACE 05-13-2008 07:16 PM

Team Zig~Zag Slingshot

After much deliberation, I finally made the switch over to axial. I decided to go with the Visionary Fabrication Slingshot for this build. So far I like everything about the chassis. I used Revo rod ends for the links. This gave me a 12" WB. So what I did was swap out the rear chassis side rod ends to Jato rod ends, that set me just over 12 3/8".

Specs.

That looks good DTP, what's your center clearance at?

DISTURBIN' tha PEACE 05-13-2008 07:23 PM

One more thing, quite a few poeple have complained about thier digs from VF. When I first assembled it, it wasn't quite as smooth as I had hoped. Talked to Don & he gave me some things to check. I found I had tightened the case too tight. I dissasembled it & since it was open I sanded down the brass pin on the drive cog. Now it's as smooth as butter, as they say.

Thanks.

Just got home from crawling. Seems to perform very well. It's definately not the same as Fat Cat. I do like the center clearance, it seemed alittle more tipsy than AFC. But I think that's because that was what I was used to. More drive time & I'll have it dialed in. The suspension was very smooth. I need to try the Badlands as they sidehill better.

ctrwannabe 05-14-2008 01:55 AM

man looks awesome , i realy like the stance / paint alot

ZipTie 05-14-2008 02:09 AM

Awesome Job DTP "thumbsup", where did you get tthe links? They look like delrin?

3" of clearance and it still looks Paved!!! sweet.

madmaxxed 05-14-2008 05:08 AM

you can get the vf chassis with the links. either straight lowers or bent lowers and the bent uppers... nice build. i have yet to take mine out and test it yet. it's been built for the last few weeks and time is short so it still just sits on display. bummin'...

Stormin2u 05-14-2008 05:20 AM

Thanks, they come with the chassis. looks like madmaxxed beat me to it. I really like the GC & the look of it being slammed.

Thanks. I figured since I didn't do a build thread for awhile, I'd do it right. If someone's building one of these & needs to know what to use, it's all right there for them. Just clickity click.;-)

Complimenting your build in a very roundabout way:).

4RnrRick 05-14-2008 01:15 PM

How are the 2/3A battery packs holding up to the 5T Cobalt? Whats your gearing? Do you like it? Are you considering lipo's? Pros - Cons?

Reason I ask is seems like most people "reccomend" lipo's with the colbalt puller motors...

Yesterday was the first test with the 2/3a cells. They seem to work quite well. No overheating & run times were about 40 minutes. They peaked at around 12v, so it had some jump to it. I previously used the cobalt in my tuber w/a MM & a 3s lipo. I really have no preference right now, except I think the lipo is lighter for the voltage you get. I only ordered these batteries because I couldn't fit the lipo anywhere right now. I do plan on moving the servo over to one side of the axle w/BTA & putting the lipo back on.

Hildy 05-14-2008 10:59 PM

Very well thought out truck"thumbsup" That body looks absolutely killer and goes with the rig very nice.

I love the diversity of rigs that you see on Rccrawler. So many options on different parts.
You know, if that rig was around just one year ago, I couldn't imagine the crowd it would've drawn.

Xtant3150c 05-15-2008 12:21 AM

Yet another "KillaH" build Sheldon

And a great job on the parts listing and links "thumbsup"

Team Zig-Zag Slingshot

Great build and great thread. All the links really are very helpful. Many thanks.

When you change out your wheels from the RC4WD Rockstars to the VF stalkers will you be selling the Rockstars? If so, I would be an interested buyer. Let me know if you would please.

Thank you. That's the great thing about this place, so much too see & learn. As far as the crowd, I just don't have as many groupies as some others do.

Thanks & you're welcome, just trying to help others out.

Sorry, I'm keeping these rims. If you've seen any of my other crawlers & RC's you these Rockstars were named just for me. And these are one of only a very few things I actually like from RC4WD.

prusik333 05-15-2008 08:56 PM

Nice build, that chassis looks real good "thumbsup". I see you have the Tekin FXR ESC, How do you like it? I was reading an article about it last night, and it looks good for the money!
