| Intro/My GC2 /Axial AX 10
I've been lurking around here for a while, and learning alot. I've been into R/C since about 1984, when my parents got me a Marui Golden Eagle/CJ7 (the black one) from Circus Hobbies here in Las Vegas. My dad chipped in one of his 2 stick airplane radios. It was a heavy metal yellow box with a ratcheting throttle stick that had to be used backwards. Up was reverse and down was forward. I've been through cars, trucks, boats, airplanes, and helicopters. I'm currently going through my rock crawler phase. My truck started out as an RTR. The speed control went out the first day, but i was hooked. I figured if i'm gonna order a new esc, i might as well replace the motor And if i'm gonna replace the motor, i might as well go brushless. And if i'm gonna go brushless, i should have a lipo. I can't run this with the crap radio. If i'm gonna get a new radio, i might as well go 2.4 Ghz. And hey Spektrum just came out with a cool 3 channel. What can i do with that third channel. And so on. Gatekeeper Designs GC2 Delrin Chassis Novak Goat Motor/ESC MaxAmps 7.4V 3300 mah lipo Hitec 5955TG (on the way) Spektrum DX3R VF Dig MIP Driveshaft (front) RCP Straight Axle Rear RCP Knuckles and C's Axial CVD's Front Traxxas 5318 and 5319 Links Proline C10 Junfac Zero Shocks Panther Cougar Tires Mayhem Beadlocks on the way (i can't wait) I haven't tried it on the rocks yet. It's 112* outside. (Click for BIGGER) And here's a video of the body mounts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEDd7TbcxdA |

Cool body mounts. Do they interfere with the reciever or ESC? Innovative! |

Got any closer pics of the VF dig? I am just curious how tight it is in there with it. Also did you have to shorten the rear driveshaft?

Like the body mounts. robert97dodge.....search for GC2 in the Axial forums and look at the many builds. The GC2 was designed around the Axial tranny and VF dig, it fits with no problems. |

I took it out on the rocks today, i'll post a video when youtube gets done processing it. There's plenty of room for the dig, and yes i had to shorten the rear driveshaft. I've still got the stocker on the rear, i have to figure out how i'm gonna shorten the MIP. The body mounts worked even better than i thought they would. The body is on there rock solid. but it will slip a little when it needs to. It did fall off after one particularly long tumble down a cliff, rolled a couple times and then free fell about five feet to flat ground. With my old body, the body would get all ripped and torn off when it fell off a rock. I'd say i rolled the truck 10 or 15 times today and the body only came off that one time. It received no damage and goes back on one handed in about a second. I didn't have any interference problems with the DX3R and the magnets. And I've got the antenna wire, servo wires and battery wires all bundled together and passing under two magnets just for good measure. The shocks are the 124 mm. I have TMaxx red springs on the back and Losi whites on the front, 60 wt oil all around and some springs from Harbor Freight under the pistons. The shocks seem to me to be well built and have worked fine with no leaks. They are smooth and easy to build. I don't know what you guys really want to know about them. I would definitely buy them again. They're as good as any shock i've ever run. The springs that came with them are black and look really cool, but they're definitely on the stiff side. The shock oil that came with them is in an unmarked bottle and looked pretty thin, I didn't use it. I guess the only bad thing i can say about them is the ordering process. If you're someone who likes to check the tracking number 6 times a day while you're waiting for parts, like me, prepare to be annoyed. I ordered mine direct from Junfac and they came Korea Post. No tracking number, i just kept checking the website which just said "processing" until a couple weeks after i got the shocks, when i got an email saying that they had shipped. it didn't take long to get them, though, just in the dark the whole time.

Here's the video of my first run today. Sorry for the heavy breathing, it was hotter than satan's anus out there. that horrible shrieking sound is the new hitec servo. the linkage needs a little more tweaking. or is that just how they sound? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thf3_zjnVTA |

It's the steering servo, my first digital. Apparently that's just the sound it makes while trying to continually center itself. I can't believe you couldn't hear it, it was driving me insane! I almost put music in the video to cover it up. I prefer videos without music so i can hear the truck doing its thing. BTW i've got a bunch of vids on youtube if anyone cares to see. Be warned: I don't edit and there's no music. http://www.youtube.com/HotCarl73 |

I got the magnets out of a "Craftsman" tool mat thing. It never held tools very well but they are light and strongly attracted to each other. This is what's left of it, elmo was inside: You can see crashes in this video to see how the body holds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSmfVGSSAB0 And this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkgdrC93FKk In this one you can see how the body goes back on after the one time it fell off in around an hour of crawling, it rolled from the top of that rock: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzzZZ4ZEe2o These are just crawling: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mK44Tb5d42c http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BG1UK-EppA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07EVa7mRDI8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0j7VFmS8gq8 Here are some action pics, my new traxxas rear driveshaft, and some heatsinks: |
