AX10 Drive Shaft Issue

So I'm crawling up a huge rock and once again I hear a snapping. I thought it was the wheel hexes until I checked closer and saw that the drive-shaft was twisting inside itself and popping, and whenever I got good traction that would happen. I bought a couple new Traxxas drive-shafts, but I was wondering if anyone has had this issue before and if anyone knows of any aluminum drive-shafts are available that will work with the AX-10? I'm close to being comp ready...real close..."thumbsup"

Get MIP CVD'S !!!!!

CharliesTheMan 08-24-2008 10:07 PM

Get a set of the MIP driveshafts. One of the most important mods on an AX-10 IMO. If you're going to run dig, you can get the set with a shortened rear driveshaft from Thunder Tech that will fit with a dig unit like the VF Dig.

I busted a yoke within 5 minutes of running my AX for the first time. I am buying the MIP drive shafts.

Thanks...I'll look into those...

MIP strong as hell

I purchased the MIPs, but I have a problem. The pins keep slowly but surely sliding out, I've tightened the allen screws pretty tight (although, not as tight as possible). Should I disassemble them a reassemble as tight as possible?

Yes. Clean off the grease if you got it on the screw threads both on the set screw and the screwhole. Then use Blue Loc-tite to hold the screw in place after you tighten it down.

to all you guys with the MIP shafts...

Are you breaking anything else in your driveline? How long and how hard have you been running these MIP shafts?

I've read where some use shrink tubing to keep this from happening. Find the right size tube, shrink it down with heat, and trim. Also, these shafts a lighter than the punisher shafts. Just thought I would add that.

I havent broken anything yet but I believe the tranny outputs are the next weak link. Mine are looking rough where the set screw tightens down. I didnt dimple the outputs to keep the yolks on either. I thought it would make my situation worse.

But if anything breaks/fails.........it needed upgrading anyways. "thumbsup"

yea it goes tranny outputs then tranny gears. i have broken all and it was not that hard either:roll:

Mips are a possible choice.

But, for about 10-15$, I was able to convert my Axial's driveshafts to parts from the Revo and Tmaxx

The Revo shaft out back serves great for a VF/DNA dig because there is NO twisting whatsoever and it allows a smooth telescoping action.

weak link

Installed MIPs and broke the trans outdrive in no time.

There is another choice. Punisher shafts from RC4WD."thumbsup"

Punishers wear out at the joint in no time at all. and quality was not worth the money.

ok, thought so thanks!

helhedded 08-26-2008 07:43 AM

hmmm I think I'd rather have my $3.00 pede drive shaft break than something in the tranny.
