For the most part you want the stock plastic ones. Rock digs into the aluminum more than the plastic, so it doesn't slide as well. Running aluminum knuckle's and c's is good though. Personally I've only broken 2 axle housings. One was before I took the knuckles off the rear, the turnbuckle popped a chunk out of the housing. THe other was when I bent a rear axle pretty bad at the lockout, and kept beatin on the rig anyway.

Stock housings are cheap though, just keep some spares.

agreed , plastic houseings with aluminum upgrades is the way to go, that being , Cs knuckes and lock outs for the rear,

check out your lower links, see how gouged and scraped up they are? thats what the hole front houseing would end up doing. even if the aluminum didnt stick to the rocks still not worth the $ just to destroy it.

I personally like the plastic rear lock outs since the aluminum ones will grab just like all the other aluminum parts will. (it's like 80 grit sand paper against a rock) If you want better perfomance, try sliding Bic style pen bodies over the bottom links, it'll let the rig just slide over the rocks intead of hanging up. (Poor mans Delrin links)

I assume you've tried an aluminum housing, which is why you're saying plastic is the way to go....right? Not just because you think it's better, without any real facts to back up your reasoning.

I've got an RC4WD front aluminum housing on my GC2 right now, and I love it. It actually hangs up less than the plastic rear. It's all about the type of aluminum used, not all aluminum is super soft.

iv made a few skids out of aluminum, and they have all gouged and stuck to rocks, so i went to UHMA, as well as my aluminum links are my down fall and thats what i always get hunbg up on, so i'm gonna try somthing else for that. so my opinion says that plastic is the way to go for any thing thats goin to touch rocks constantly . i tend not to open my mouth with out having a reason to and most of the time a valid opinion. but thats great if you think i just say what i want with out havinng any experiance with it . if you like your aluminum parts go a head and say so . put your 2 cents in thats all i did

I'm confused, so you have tried the aluminum housing or you haven't? DISCLAIMER-I'm just messing with ya a bit here-

I will agree that soft aluminum hangs up easier, as the rocks can gouge into it more than plastic, but the aluminum they use on the RC4WD housing is not soft, and doesn't gouge very easily at all. I take sandpaper to my plastic housings and delrin skidplates before I run to make them smooth as silk again, and after I get done running, the plastic has more gouges than the aluminum housing.

nope dont have the aluminum houseing after my experiance with with aluminum any thing else i just see it as a waste of my money. hence i havnt looked into what companys use what alloys in their houseings, so if rc4wd has got somthing that works awesome.

if you call this "messing" with me you might wanna take a few lessons from some more experianced people. 6-7 years on 1:1 forums i doubt you could even start to mess with me on your best day
