Default Scorpion king!

Ive had such a great time modifiing my AX-10 for crawling, that I decided to pick up another new one this week and go in a different direction with it.

May I present... SCORPION KING!

My goal is to make a truck that can match a Traxxas E-Maxx or better. I know, I could have started with an E-Maxx; but Im a fan of the AX-10 and really enjoy a good project!

I started off with Clod 14mm Adaptors / Axle Extenders:

Then I beefed up the front steering links and servo arm to man handle the massive wheel set up!

I stripped out the stock plastic servo arm running the original wheel set up during the first battery!!!

Links are Integy, servo arm is Futaba, its been trimmed off at the bottom.

I then added RPM Stablemaxx 14mm wheels with a deep offset to clear everything, and Pro-Line Maxx Masher Tires.

The gearing and electronics are all still stock, and it still moves out very well! I will replace things from this point forward as they give out or break.

Im thinking the stock plastic body shocks may be the first to go?

Anyone have any ideas for making this an ultimate basher?

Thanks!

I had the same question, build scale? Or a basher?

I love projects so much that I'll probably have to sell something on ebay so I can build a scale version too!

Ha! Thanks!

I was naming it after the movie staring 'The Rock' that came out about 6 years ago...

Nice name yourself!

Ran the truck tonight and Im really impressed that everything is holding up well to the extra wheel weight.

Some stuff had to be tightened up after the session, but nothing broke!

The tires drag the body under acceleration, forwards and reverse. I really like the stock body, so instead of trimming it; Im going to figure out a 'body lift' of about an inch.

I think I'll run alloy beams across the chassis length wise from the front shocks to the rear, drill a few holes in the middle, and attach the body mount posts.

Hopefully that will work!

Yeah, Im looking into a 4 link set up tonight to try and control chasis twist or wheel lift upon hitting the throttle from a standing start.

Im thinking that should help, as well as be stronger too!

Nice job mate! My guess is you should stock on some servos with these tires and no servo saver.

Right... I do plan to upgrade the servo once this one burns out!

I am still new to the RC world, so Im not exactly sure what a servo saver is? Can I just admit that and get the embarrasment out of the way?

I did just add today a servo guard from Integy, mostly for looks though I think!

Thanks for the tip on the links! I will certainly check them out.

Thought Id show some updates... Scorpion King is progressing.

No new electronics yet, still all stock; but researching faster motors, etc.

I added these Integy alloy steering components. Strange thing is I cant really tighten the bolts or the steering will bind! Any suggestions?
