Default Ax10 based tuber build

Well I picked up this tuber chassis here on rcc and want to get started on my build. The chassis is pretty rough and needs a lot of clean up, but when all is said and done I think it will be a very capable crawler.

I started cleaning it up already.

This may take a little while to get going as I'm waiting for the rest of my parts to get here.

What chassis is that? i don't think i've ever seen that before.

You planning on repainting it or powdercoating it? Cause you should just sand blast that sucker.

I will be watching this to see what you do, I just got a rock rider chassis from joeyf here on RCC, this is what it looks like, just waiting for it to come in, Im sure I will need to strip the paint and start over, may try to have it powder coated.

It's taking more than a dremel to clean this thing up, I'm starting with the bench grinder! Man I think Hubba Bubba welded it lol. Any way it's a very solid home made chassis from out west that just needs a little tlc. Believe me it's getting stripped down and re-done. Once I get it cleaned up I'm going to re-do the shock tabs to allow for more adjustability.

We'll see what happens.
Parts list includes
Axial tranny
Axial axels
Tekin FXR, Pro handwound 35t combo
Hobbico 333 oz TG servo
Traxxas big bores (modded)
not sure on the wheels and tires yet.

I'll get up more pics tonight as I get more done.

Yes it was, I worked on it for a bit today and probably shaved a good 2-3 oz in excess weld from the chassis so far. I should have weighed it before for a comparison, oh well.

I got my other box of goodies today with my tranny and axles, time for some mock up.

To be continued.....

The chassis is almost ready, I think I have about 3 hours into it at this point and probably need to spend another hour or so grinding and filing.

OK so it's been a while since I worked on my tuber project.

I got the chassis cleaned up and re-painted and started mocking things up. I'm still trying to play with the link lengths but I think I need to shorten up the upper links a little bit more.
Any input would be great

Thanks, Slow Goin

I went back out to the work shop to have a few more cold ones and get the rest of the mock up done.

Here is what I came up with, this is my first tuber so any of you guys with experience please chime in if you see something that might be a problem.

This is fully extended

And the mandatory flex shot

Coming down home stretch now, all that is left is the dig servo mount and the body panels.

The boss was watching intently

I love Canadian beer ehh

My wheel base was to long with the stock lower links in the rear. So instead of waiting to place an order I made my own out of a carbon fiber arrow shaft, turned out pretty well I think. I also got my belly clearance up a tad, I may drop it back down depending on how it crawls.

I made a quick video today of my tuber project.
Axial axles
Hobbico 170 333oz digital servo
Tekin FXR
Tekin 35T hand wound
I have the hr dig in but wire tied it for now until I make the servo mount.
max shocks fronts are set up with internal springs under the piston backs are empty for now.

I had some time today so I finished up my body panels, whatcha think.
I made them from some poly sheeting I had laying around, and the window netting is from an old diving bag.
EDIT: I pulled out the tekin gear until I get a bec, after running it through the course a few times was close to smokin the esc the rooster/55t combo went back in from my other rig.
yes they are just poser shots

I went to kill a few batteries and found that the poly I used either didn't like the cold or had a reaction to the paint. After the first roll over it decided it wanted to be a convertable.

So after some liquid insperation...............................
