So what motor are you running in the car now?

sourdojack 09-27-2011 03:52 PM

It still has a 12turn Blue cobalt puller. I switched to a Mamba Micro pro to try to help with the throttle smoothness. But it's still not great... I have a Holmes Crawlmaster Pro 16turn sitting on the bench I might put in there TOM

So I think the idea is to run MOA's first, then run the Pro-shafty trucks. So that way there isn't really an advantage at all. And I know that our pro-shafty class dropped down to 2 people, hopefully this will help bring some interest back into it.

And with the switch in tires, it's really hard for me to notice a difference... Wait till the update to see what tires I'll be running :ror:

TOM

The guys running both an MOA and a shafty truck will then have an advantage in the shafty class. Not sure how this will all shake out, but I guess more trucks in the shafty class will be good.

I bent them myself. Not hard at all. Just put them in a vice, and use the box end of a 10mm wrench and push "thumbsup"

I found the axle C's needed clearanced on the inside because the Super300's were hitting them. It turns pretty nice now.

And of course you can take this to the Southern OR comps! Good luck though, the motor is REALLY jumpy. I need to mess with the throttle curves some more....

thats sweet, thanks for the tip. im assuming you used all thread or something to mock up before you bent those titanium links?

Chris_The_Battery_Man 09-30-2011 02:46 PM

Knowing TOM, he just went to town. I never do a test lol, just bend away. But I have built many trucks, and am confident in my abilities, as is TOM."thumbsup"

Not that it's a big deal, but I was wondering if the edge of the vise or wrench left indents or permanent marks on the Ti?

sourdojack 09-30-2011 03:11 PM

Yeah it left little indents in the links. You can also use a tubing bender and some good muscle to bend them if you don't want any marks in your links.

WAM 09-30-2011 03:46 PM

Maybe if you stuck in little pieces cut from an aluminum beer can or something as cushions?

Chris_The_Battery_Man 09-30-2011 03:47 PM

Wood would work well too"thumbsup" Like a Popsicle stick

sourdojack 09-30-2011 04:35 PM

I usually try REALLY hard to keep my rock crawler from getting scratches or gouges in it . And make sure to polish my links with polishing cloth. And clean every bit of dirt and grease off my axles and chassis between every crawling trip. Then my tires... whew... they get unmounted after every day of crawling. Foams are set aside to re-expand and dry out. Then I soak the tires in a solution of simple green and WD-40. Then run the tires through the dishwasher and then let them dry overnight.

It works out really well on keeping my truck performing at it's top level. But it sure makes for long nights at multi day comps, like the AWCC "thumbsup"

Tanis 09-30-2011 08:33 PM

Gives a whole new meaning to OCD:ror:
I'm digging this car Tom, next time I'm down I'll have to see how my non-dig shafty compares"thumbsup"...course I don't have super300's for ridiculous steering:cry: or good tires...so in the words of the great Hackster(Sean) I'll just have to "drive harder and smarter"

Here the crazy abortion of a truck I started with. Work has been slow this week. So I decided to do a much needed re-build.

Fully Loaded AX-10 Axles, custom chassis and WK transmission.

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...-04-01_897.jpg

Here's the new sweetness . . .

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...-09-04_115.jpg

I didn't like the stock motor plate with my little puller motor, so I started cutting up the stock one.

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...-09-47_514.jpg

Then cut out a template of a new one

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...-26-34_639.jpg

Then did some cutting and filing while I was waiting for some more work to come in.

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...0810172417.jpg

Here it is mounted in the chassis, still need to cut off some excess material. But it's a good start!

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...-54-11_593.jpg

The motor only hangs out the chassis like 3/8"

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...-54-21_210.jpg

SSZ wheels mounted up (Thanks to Falloout "thumbsup") And steering roughly mocked up.

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...-55-51_886.jpg

With 725 hubs im right at 10.5" at the widest part of the tire.

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...0-56-00_93.jpg

600's in the rear for just over 10" width.

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...-56-42_101.jpg

Turnin' right

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...-54-58_436.jpg

Turnin' left

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...-54-50_765.jpg

Electronics and Battery plate for the front links

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...-03-46_860.jpg

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...-04-00_589.jpg

It looks like everything will fit just perfectly! Thanks again Chris for the Batteries!

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...-05-01_128.jpg

Mocked up in the chassis and at full compression

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...1-08-00_49.jpg

That's all for now! More updates to come this week!

TOM

Where do you get that braided wire loom that you have over your steering servo wire? I've gotta get me some! The crawler looks great!"thumbsup"
