| how tough is the stock ax10 trans?
working on a build slowly. trying to go as cheap as i can on this rig as i dont have a ton of cash to play with right now. the chassis im planning on using is the Manta chassis that Offroader5 has on his site. going to use a set of AX10 axles, have a set of Losi Rock claws and going to run Axial wheels for now. this is just going to be a basher comp style rig nothin fancy just somethin to play around with. next thing im going to look for is a trans. seen some of the AX10 trannys and they look cheap money wise but wanted to ask you all how they hold up? its going to be a slow build for me for a while but will be worth it in the end i hope. built one some time ago and had to get rid of all of my toys for other reasons at home and now trying to get back in. so hopefully this will be a fun build for me. |

I've read a few post where people said they had good luck with the stock gears... My personal experience, and many others, is that it will fail sooner than later. If you install Robinson Racing gears, it is bullet proof! |

Bare minimum drop a Robinson center gear in it. The stock bottom gear will outlive a dozen stock plastic center gears.

In my experience, they are pretty tough. That is if you drive sensibly and/or the trans has a slipper. But anything can be broken, especially if there's no slipper. If you do forward/reverse slams, you'll kill the center gear pretty quick. If it's got the aluminum outputs, they might be the next weak link. Then the big gear. I run all stock plastic stuff in my 2.2s comp rig for less weight. Only broke one center gear, and it was on a gap jump that didn't land so well. |

| Re: how tough is the stock ax10 trans? Yup the top gear is metal and the other two are plastic stock. I run a Robinson steel center gear in both rigs, one of them has a Robinson hardened aluminum bottom gear too because I drive that one like an ass. |

I have a wraith and I found a used ax10 for my wife over a year ago. I have had to do nothing to the ax10. the wraith I have had open twice in that time. I like the ax10. Plus there are tons of dig units available if you go that route
