3Racing Front CV "Swing Shafts" I bought a pair of these shafts at my LHS for cheep, and I was wondering if there really any better then my stock dogbone axle shafts? I did a search but didnt find much on them, Can anybody give me any info or there expereinces with them? I figure ill keep them for trail spares if the stock dogbones are better? Thanks for any help guys! |
Re: 3Racing Front CV "Swing Shafts" Those are the cvd's, correct? I've seen mixed results with them, just like the axial cvd's. Some people's last forever, but some don't last a whole pack. It depends on the batch. My buddy has some and theyve lasted 3 months since he bought them. |
Re: 3Racing Front CV "Swing Shafts" what battery and motor are you running? The price is pretty good for those cvds. I run 3s with 35t motor. I will probably pick up a pair if they hold up for you |
Re: 3Racing Front CV "Swing Shafts" I think mine spit the pins out the first day of hard driving. Either make new and slightly longer ones, or see if Gunnar is still making them. Otherwise they've been fine. |
Re: 3Racing Front CV "Swing Shafts" I only had one pair of those, but I broke both of them on the first and second courses I ran with them. I was running a Holmes Revolver on 3s. I never tried them again. |
Re: 3Racing Front CV "Swing Shafts" Im running a 7 cell NiMh with a 19 turn brushed, Sounds like there quality reflects there price... Ill probly run em and see what happens! There Less floppy than stock tho! |
Re: 3Racing Front CV "Swing Shafts" The problem with the ring-type CVD is that the pins are generally too short. The pins should be made to fit the inside diameter of the ring. For Axial CVD's the pin is about 10.7mm long, but the ID of the ring is 11mm, so I make those pins 10.96 to 11mm. This usually reduces pin spitout, as well as engaging all of the wall of the bell portion of the CVD. For the 3 Racing, the pins are 9.5 to 9.7mm, but the ring is 10mm ID, so I make those pins 9.96 to 10mm long. For the setscrew-held type of CVD, I just match the OD of the bell. I've had some 3R cvd's last pretty good, but most of mine have twisted the stub shaft off of the CVD bell. |
Re: 3Racing Front CV "Swing Shafts" I kinda but dont really get it..... Is there Other styles of CV's available for these crawlers? It looks like my MIP shafts are the same style as these 3racing.....? Quote:

Re: 3Racing Front CV "Swing Shafts" I was refering to the two different ways the pin is held in the CVD, Either by a ring covering the ends of the pin-Axial, 3Racing, Super 300, or with a setscrew in one side of the small cylinder in the center of the joint- MIP, older RC4WD, etc. |
Re: 3Racing Front CV "Swing Shafts" I run 3Racing cvd's with no problem. I run Gunnar's pins in them - but to be honest I hadn't had one break before that. I'm only running 2S, Novak and a Rooster 55, so I'm not throwing huge amounts of power thru them, but I drive it! |
Re: 3Racing Front CV "Swing Shafts" Can anybody tell me if these shafts have a better turning angle then my stock dog bones? (before Binding) |
Re: 3Racing Front CV "Swing Shafts" |
Re: 3Racing Front CV "Swing Shafts" Yes, much better turning angle (although I have a little less, but not much less than Duuuuuuuude's awesome display)! Duuuuuuuude, where are you mounting the battery? I still have mine on a front battery/servo tray and a 1000mAh will foul the tyre (an 850mAh doesn't - but the 1000mAh seem to be much easier to acquire). I'm not using BTA either. |

I don't use batteries. Mine runs on unicorn farts and belly button lint. "thumbsup" |

Is this happening to your rig also? http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/axial...bad-video.html |
Re: 3Racing Front CV "Swing Shafts" Now that you mention it, yes they did. I had to shim them so they were centered on the kingpin in the knuckles. |

Thanks! |
Re: 3Racing Front CV "Swing Shafts" I honestly don't remember exactly what I did...its been quite a while and I'd have to tear one apart to find out. |
Re: 3Racing Front CV "Swing Shafts" the CVD pin and and the king pin Have to be in line with each other.......... |
Re: 3Racing Front CV "Swing Shafts" I just tried shimming the shaft outwords, and it still does it. I then tried shimming the shaft inwords, and it still did it. Im going to replace the outer knuckle bearings tomorow afternoon. If this doesnt fix my problum, is it the shafts? Thanks guys |
