O well my bad on that, i mean longer, taller, bigger tires just like in real life will allow you to go over bigger things. But it depends on your surroundings.

I would say skid and links are more exposed. So on any type of variable height terrain, you are presenting a larger surface to drag on especially with Proline Hammers for tires. Unless of course you are running say 7+" tall tires. My 0.02 value.

Longer will be more stable but will also high center more often than a crawler with a shorter wheelbase (under the assumption both use the same size tires). It may allow the front tires to reach a steep ledge easier, but i doubt the fronts will be able to grip enough to drag such a long truck up & over. A shorter wheelbase will allow for a tighter non-dig turning radius and will ypicallyu be much easier to get up * over a ledge as the fronts only need to pull the truck so far before the rears bite and push the back end up. 14" seems excessive for a crawler. If you were FOFF'ing it, then 14" sounds about right as the longer wheelbase will provide more stability at high speeds. Last edited by TSK; 02-06-2012 at 02:54 PM. |

Doubled edged sword really, the longer you make it the more the rear links will drag stopping the front from pulling up. The shorter you make it the more chance it has of flipping backward and more weight is transferred to the rear tires lessening the traction to front where the majority traction is needed. There is no best option given different terrain but a good comprise is a 'slightly' longer wheelbase with a swept back chassis and high rear link clearance, also front weight bias helps out any wheelbase. |

It may be hard to get a true opinion on this since most of the crawlers on here are based on 12.5" wheelbase for comping. I say make a couple sets of links to test different lengths and go have fun. Let us know what you decide.
