Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch Hmm? Was wondering about a sway bar...you guys just summed up my decision! Gotta build it first to run it and then work from there! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch Yeah, Darren, don't worry about a swaybar yet. If you decide on one later, I know of at least 3 used ones. |

Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch Thanks guys! Been doing alot of head scratching to setup stance and links etc. Your thread has been a valuable reference! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch Here's some pics from yesterdays comp, cars working much better without the sway bar. Nice to see it flexing and following the terrain again, now its time to work my my back to the top! http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psuxehmjnm.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psxbwuittz.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...pslpf4fknu.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps5817dsxi.jpg |
Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch Looks great! What springs were you running when you ran the sway bar? |
Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch Quote:

Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch Thats a pretty stiff spring. I can see why your car was not flexing when you add the sway bar and a stiffer spring like that. The main idea behind the sway bar is to remove rate from the springs and then the sway bar adds rate. If you simply add the sway bar without swapping springs, youre not really getting any benefit at all, just a stiffer setup that wont let you flex. Did you try softer springs? I use mini-T pinks and when I am in the furthest hole back on the sway bar arm, its too soft for sure. I personally would not use anything other than a pink or red mini-T rate. |
Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch I guess another way to put it is if that youre car works good with the setup you have right now, adding a sway bar will NOT help. So, if youre car is good now with silver MRC springs it was way, way to stiff with silver MRC springs and a sway bar. If you get a sway bar, you will have to put softer springs on with the sway bar to get a similar feel for the car that you had before only now it will have other benefits. |
Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch I see, maybe I'll play around in my spare time with some pinks and see if I like it. There was definitely some situations that the sway bar was a benefit."thumbsup" |
Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch I can see why you ditched it with that setup. For sure try it again with softer springs. Not that I suggest it but I think you would be much closer if you ran no springs at all than those silvers. The whole idea behind the sway bar is being able to run softer springs on the shocks. This should take a lot of the bounce/hop out of the rear on climbs and not want to roll you over (like you found on downhills) in general. |
Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch The rc bros springs are even softer if you need that. Just an FYI! |
Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch What is the rate on the RCbros and how did you check them? |

RcBros Light Shock Springs | RcBros Hobbies Shock springs can often be one of the most important things to tune when it comes to rock crawling. We’ve taken the most commonly used shocks in our industry as a base standard and created something readily available with an affordable price. Made in the USA these are precision wound and feature closed ends that have been ground flat for proper operation. These match the standard height and diameter of the common Losi Mini-T rear springs with a spring rate of .83 LB/IN. |
Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch I got 5th place today at Best of the West, good times!"thumbsup" |
Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch Good job Chris! Good luck today! |
Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch You boys posting all these pics, Really makes me kick myself in the ass for missing this one! Maybe the next one! |
Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch It was one for the ages. And that only includes the crawling part. The after parties were awesome too! |
Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch Well our season for this year is over, finished 2nd at the last comp and 3rd overall for the season. Cars been working really good since the last change and its been showing in the results. Here's some pics from the weekend... http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psivu4z54w.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psho5tnji6.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psgnjnlngn.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psgrbp6ezy.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps4g4lec8b.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psig2mqznk.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psejpu3qwf.jpg |
Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch Nice work driver. I really like the way you have that body trimmed in the back. I may have to steal that idea when I trim my new body for my sporty. |
Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch Time for another update. Got my RC4WD Bully Comp tires mounted and been running them hard for a few weeks now, love them! Also almost ready to get these Sucker Punch chassis' out the door again, just a small screw up on cutting the skids put us out a few more weeks.:x Anyway, here's a sneak peak on what you'll be able to get... COLORS! As you can see I stayed with my side mount lexan battery tray as I like the way it offsets the motor weight a little bit."thumbsup" http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psj7oiftou.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psscj1sv4n.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psux2nimsv.jpg |

Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch B-b-b-but, your signature color is yellow, Chris. Sorry to hear about the production snag. Maybe your fabricator needs a short holiday...oh, wait, he's getting one. :ror: |
Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch Looking good Chris like-in it. "thumbsup" Can't wait for the New RC4DW tires to get out to us regular peons  And just FYI in CNC machining there are no screw-ups. It's just a per -production prototype for Ver.2.1 :lmao: |

Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch Comp 1 for the new season went well pulling a 2nd. Still the same untouched rig as last season with the exception of the new colored chassis and RC4WD Bully Comp tires."thumbsup" http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psw79mw9zf.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psbkzfx4fc.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psf0rsp7um.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psmaimhwwm.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psdowovpgd.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...pstvszscdl.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psomjwistc.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psxync2pgl.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...pskpsfojah.jpg |
Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch Tied for 4th this time out but since Solitare had a better last course score I ended up in 5th. Car worked great with some tough courses, here's some pics... http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psu44mca0k.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psxxuxrbbi.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psmbyzjwkw.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psjil7rvt2.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psgwekbex2.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psafrh7txp.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps4rctngtw.jpg |
Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch How are those tires feeling now? Feel like they are coming in or fading the more you use them since they were new? |

Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch Got my new Snowflakes in white G10 from Robbob at Krazed Builds. These came in at .9 oz., .1 oz. heavier than my old Dlux wheels which have served me well with no issues. I think these look killer on this rig!"thumbsup" http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...pszlxdw4pk.jpg |
Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch Looks great Chris! I think 3 piece or just simply a black outer ring added when you bolt them together, would really set off the snowflake design! |
Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch Here's some pics from our very smokey comp last weekend... http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps9ebzdit5.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps2rmfw2yx.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...pscdbwt4ao.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psdifaohyh.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psauj73ima.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...pslcw2x97s.jpg |
Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch Looking forward to seeing this in person in a few days! |
Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch You planning to try any pin cut on those tires or just like them how they are? I'll be running some on my sporty so I'm curious what you like... |
