Hmm? Was wondering about a sway bar...you guys just summed up my decision! Gotta build it first to run it and then work from there!

Yeah, Darren, don't worry about a swaybar yet. If you decide on one later, I know of at least 3 used ones.

That's the best way, know your car first then you can use the sway bar as a tuning tool for those times when it would be an advantage."thumbsup"

Here's some pics from yesterdays comp, cars working much better without the sway bar. Nice to see it flexing and following the terrain again, now its time to work my my back to the top!

Looks great!

What springs were you running when you ran the sway bar?

MRC silvers

Erik D_lux 03-23-2015 09:21 AM

Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch

Thats a pretty stiff spring. I can see why your car was not flexing when you add the sway bar and a stiffer spring like that.

The main idea behind the sway bar is to remove rate from the springs and then the sway bar adds rate. If you simply add the sway bar without swapping springs, youre not really getting any benefit at all, just a stiffer setup that wont let you flex.

Did you try softer springs? I use mini-T pinks and when I am in the furthest hole back on the sway bar arm, its too soft for sure. I personally would not use anything other than a pink or red mini-T rate.

Erik D_lux 03-23-2015 09:27 AM

Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch

I guess another way to put it is if that youre car works good with the setup you have right now, adding a sway bar will NOT help. So, if youre car is good now with silver MRC springs it was way, way to stiff with silver MRC springs and a sway bar.

If you get a sway bar, you will have to put softer springs on with the sway bar to get a similar feel for the car that you had before only now it will have other benefits.

cboggs 03-23-2015 10:56 AM

Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch

I see, maybe I'll play around in my spare time with some pinks and see if I like it. There was definitely some situations that the sway bar was a benefit."thumbsup"

Erik D_lux 03-23-2015 11:15 AM

Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch

I can see why you ditched it with that setup.

For sure try it again with softer springs. Not that I suggest it but I think you would be much closer if you ran no springs at all than those silvers. The whole idea behind the sway bar is being able to run softer springs on the shocks. This should take a lot of the bounce/hop out of the rear on climbs and not want to roll you over (like you found on downhills) in general.

Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch

The rc bros springs are even softer if you need that. Just an FYI!

What is the rate on the RCbros and how did you check them?

Spring rate is listed on there site

RcBros Light Shock Springs | RcBros Hobbies

Shock springs can often be one of the most important things to tune when it comes to rock crawling. We’ve taken the most commonly used shocks in our industry as a base standard and created something readily available with an affordable price.

Made in the USA these are precision wound and feature closed ends that have been ground flat for proper operation.

These match the standard height and diameter of the common Losi Mini-T rear springs with a spring rate of .83 LB/IN.

I really like the way you have that body trimmed in the back.

I may have to steal that idea when I trim my new body for my sporty.

Re: cboggs' 5th D Sucker Punch

Time for another update. Got my RC4WD Bully Comp tires mounted and been running them hard for a few weeks now, love them! Also almost ready to get these Sucker Punch chassis' out the door again, just a small screw up on cutting the skids put us out a few more weeks.:x Anyway, here's a sneak peak on what you'll be able to get... COLORS! As you can see I stayed with my side mount lexan battery tray as I like the way it offsets the motor weight a little bit."thumbsup"

B-b-b-but, your signature color is yellow, Chris.
Sorry to hear about the production snag.

And just FYI in CNC machining there are no screw-ups. It's just a
