buy Axial Ridgecrest or Axia lAX10 Scorpion

Hello, i whant to buy a crawler to have some fun, are these cars the same chassis? should i get a old AX10 Scorpion artc or the new ridgecrest?

Unless you have a source for the old AX10, you may not find it. They have been discontinued a while back with the Ridgeline being the "replacement".

The Ridgeline is an all tubular frame similar to the Wraith only in a vertical plate type set up. The AX10 is a true aluminum vertical plate type chassis and really doesn't compare to the Ridgeline.

If you want to do more slow technical type driving, find yourself an AX10 or an already built AX10 based rig. If you want to go faster with more high speed runs, then go after the Ridgeline.

Current;y there are tons more aftermarket parts available for the AX10 with the only pieces available for the Ridgeline are the pieces available for the Wraith axles underneath it. I'm sure that will change in the future though.

The Ridgecrest actually has better 4 link geometry than the Scorpion RTR. The chassis may not be aluminum but the tubular plastic design is actually very solid.

It really depends what you want. Do you want an older traditional rock crawler, or a newer rock racer. Both take modifications to make them good rock crawlers.

I vote Ridgecrest because the wider Axle + offset pumpkin seems to contribute to reduced torque twist.

Chassis: Similar widths, metal vs. composite, however, the tuning options make the Ridgecrest chassis pretty damn slick! = Advantage - Ehhh, I think Ridgecrest

Other than the Body and the Beadlocks, I think your base platform is just flat out better with the Ridgecrest, FOR THE SAME DANG PRICE as 5 yrs ago!

Because I think you just talked me into buying a Ridgecrest.

I've been wanting a vehicle for a bit more actual crawling than my Honcho can do, and I'd been trying to figure out if I wanted to try and go with a Ridgrecrest or something different...and here you come with this comparison that basically has sold me on a Ridgecrest!!!

To be fair, the newer AX did get the same improvements in the electronics package as their other models did.

They no longer offer the FM radio, AE-1 and AS-1 servo. They switched the AX over as well in the later RTR packages.

Everything new (including Wraith and SCX) comes with the 2.4Ghz radio, AE-2 and AS-3.

it comes down to what you want. if your looking for a true rockcrawler and see competitions in your future, go with an older ax10. if your wanting a rig to run around, have fun with, bash, and general goofing off, go ridgecrest.

while the new ridgecrest could be made into a capable crawler, you will run into the same basic things as with the older ax10. you will be upgrading pretty much everything on the crawler, and usually leaving the only stock parts being the axle housings. with the ridgecrest and the wraith the stock ar60 axles are so wide it really makes it difficult during competitions.

I say RidgeCrest alll they way..... I trail run, rock crawl and occasional mud run with mine and out of the box its an absolute blast.... I would recommend using locktite on the driveshaft screws/grub screws and putting the battery in the front mount position and moving the shocks to the inward position and thats really all you need to do.

Check AMain Hobbies: $309.99 minus a $25.00 coupon and free shipping. Total $284.99. Their website says that the Ridgecrest should be in stock June 1. I think that's about the best deal out there, if you can wait a couple of weeks.

Ok I'm gonna add 2 more cents. I bought my AX10 RTC in November new for 249.99$. I added servo, tires, front and rear 4 link, new FB II chassis from UGC and a couple other small things. Next on my list was to do the XR10 mod on the stock axles which would have included using beef tubes, axial CVD's and chubs and Knucks. Way over 100$ for just the front axle alone. Now I sold the AX10 back in stock form for $225 and bought a ridgecrest for $280 + tax for a difference of $55 and now I have a full set of AR60 axles, full 4 link suspension. And to boot I still have the tires, servo (1268sg savox) FBII chassis, and the front and rear 4 link plates (which now I won't need till I start another project). So I hope this helps in your decision. Again just my 2 cents.

While I'm more of a crawler than a basher, the Ridgecrest may make its way into my stable of vehicles if I can unload my Exo soon. It would be built to crawl.

I had intentions on showing yesterday. When 5 p.m. rolled around though, I knew I wouldn't be able to stay awake for the rest of the evening, much less drive decent. Ended up going home instead.

I did manage to head out for the pro night tonight and secured 2nd. I'll be there Saturday morning.
