I'm running the Yeti RTR motor and ESC, Vanguard AE-3(CC SW-3) + 3150kV motor with 3S
Runs fast (focused in U4 races) but with the 2 speed I can do some light crawling/trailing without cog

Ok. I have my Holmes Hobbies BLE and Puller Pro 3500 stubby with SSD 2 speed in my Bomber. It took me a while and 2 cheap servos to get the 2 speed set up ( hint 8) use a good servo saver ). AWESOME!!!!! Great wheel speed for racing or fun. And the low speed crawling is without a doubt the best scale 2.2 I've ever had. I have about 15 3s 4500mah batteries ran through it and am one happy guy."thumbsup"

I just swapped out my AE5 with Titan 21t for a Novak Timbuk2 13.5 Wraith edition. Running stock gears. I have great low end for crawling and trailing.

Re: What's Powering your Bomber

I went with a MMP with Castle external BEC, Teking ROC412 3100kv motor and 3S LiPo. Stock trans setup, stock gearing. Run times are good, low speed is very smooth, and no heat issues so far. Brakes are very strong, I need to turn down my drag brake quite a lot from my first setting. Plenty of torque, enough to shatter the short side front dog bone while being lazy and not wanting to go over and flip the truck over (just mashed the gas and turned the wheel to get one tire to grab). Didn't even flinch on anything else, just kaboomed the bone.

I am happy with the power. I don't know what I would do with much more speed.

When I'm not at my day job I'm the parts guy at our local offraod track and I sell a ton of Hobbywing stuff. Its top notch. I'm going to use the Hobbywing SCT Pro combo w/3656 4-Pole 3400KV Sensored Brushless Motor. I sell it all and I'd much rather have the SCT Pro ESC over a Tekin RX8 and the HW 4 pole motors are among the best. I have a ROC412 3300 in my Wroncho and I like it but its just not as powerful. I'm being careful to not say the Tekin is not as smooth because that would be a tough call and not completely fair.....its very close but the HW 3400 is a 550 I think, its definitely bigger. I use them to power my Tekno SCT410 4x4 SC trucks which are 8+ pound rocketships! I'm going to have to try one the Holms motors though. I hear great stuff about them and the vendor supports his products.

Just put in a castle creations sidewinder 8th 2200kv motor and ESC. Have the 2 speed trans 18t pinion stock 64t spur. Don't do it. It's too much power.

anyone else have experience with the tekin roc412 series? Looking into first hand experience prior to pulling the trigger

Looking for some info on it too. Harley Designs has a YouTube video about it. He was installing it on the one of his budget builds. Not exactly first hand experience hahaha.

I use the Roc 412 2300kv and love it, geared 18/64 it has so much torque and barely gets warm. My bomber is also on the heavier side.

Works well for me anyway. Has plenty of smooth low end control too for more technical manoeuvres.

rockpunisher 04-12-2016 06:02 AM

Still has some get up when you need it tho?

Geared 18/64 it sure does, could even gear it higher for more speed as heat is not an issue currently.

Re: What's Powering your Bomber

I'm struggling with a motor choice myself; as I'm not wanting to do a 2speed; yet I like technical crawling and my other favorite thing is hillclimbing. Wonder what motor combo could hang with that as I know those are two totally different animals when it comes to off-road disciplines.

So far I've run 27, and 35 brushed 540's on 3s and ran a 550 Titan 21. I'm not really impressed with any of them as the "powerband" is really narrow.

danielson94 04-12-2016 08:58 AM

If you don't want to run a 2speed get a motor/ESC that can handle 4s. Use the voltage for speed but the low end torque for low speed and program the throttle curve in ur ECU. The 8th scale motors work really good for it.

The tatan 12t burned up my ESC. I burned up a 20t and the 35t is a dog

The Titan 21 I run occasionally is not one bit faster than my stock 35t. Torqier yeh but def not faster or if it is it isn't by much.

What ESC, stock? I doubt it was the motor that burnt up your ESC.

danielson94 04-12-2016 04:19 PM

Re: What's Powering your Bomber

Yeah the stock ESC that came with the bomber paired with the Titan 12t . all I know is it stopped sending power to the leads

Re: What's Powering your Bomber

currently have the stock motor & gearing powering my bomber, however i do have a MMP to go in it & was hoping to use a Tekin Roc412 3100kv, However they are quite hard to get & everywhere ive tried over here has been out of stock,

What would be a fair alternative to the Roc412?

My first choice over everything (including the Roc412) would be the Holmes Puller Pro.

If you can't get one of those, the Tekin Pro4HD or Pro4 would be my next choices.

Other options out there are the Tenshock SC411, Hobbywing XErun 3656, and Toro S-Pro4.

Re: What's Powering your Bomber

Puller Pro Stubby would be most similar, but I would go for the 540 size to have extra torque and power. You can always gear down a 3500 or gear up a 2700 for your wanted wheelspeed.
