Default Gearing Suggestions Mamba / Castle 1410 3800kv

I just picked up a RR10 and want to install a Mamba Max Pro / Castle 1410 3800kv sensored setup into it.

Any suggestions on where to start with a pinion size?

I have only ever messed with brushed setups in my old SCX10. Only used brushless setups in my SCT's.

Right now I am open to running 2s or 3s depending on suggestions. The only mods I will be making is changing the links out to aluminum, rear sway bar, and keeping the rest of it stock..

I would probably gear it higher than stock, and I would use 3s. Probably start on a 10t pinion.

10 or 11t pinion with stock 64t spur. You could also go under-driven on the diff gears - some just do the rear but you can do both. That should keep temps in check, and as long as you don't overheat switch to the kit 12t for more speed. Underdrive will slow you down but they are the strongest selection of the diff gearsets. Underdrive just on the rear will allow the front to climb better but can mess up higher speed steering control.

on 3S it will be a missile. I run the 2850kv Castle motor with an 11 tooth pinion and it's as fast as I could ever want on 3S, and even using 2S there's not much need for the speed it has unless I'm using it in a wide open field.

I have the same motor with a mamba X. I'm running a 2 speed and I did have the 28T 2nd gear, with a 16/64 on 3S. It was really good fun. Ive now changed 2nd gear to the 26T ( should make it taller from what I understand) but Ive put a 12T on. Its good fun on 3s but going down to 2S its not quite there, however it does crawl alot better. It depends what you want to do.

I may try a 14T soon I think as it might make a good compromise....

Thanks for the guidance. Eventually I will put a 2 speed kit in this. I am looking some speed out of it and I completely understand that it handles like a battleship. I unboxed mine last night and ran it a bit after putting the link kit in it and painting it up a bit.

I have a bunch of 2500mah 3s soft packs for my quadcopter that work well so I may pick up a 2s hard pack for crawling to slow it down. I have never had a sensored motor so I am eager to see how much better the slow speed control is over my old Sidewinder and non sensored 1410 I had in my SCX10.

I have a Brood 3600kv motor on 3S in my Bomber with UD gears F/R and a SSD 2 speed. Pretty sure I'm geared at 64/12.

It's too fast for it's own good in high gear but crawls pretty well in low gear. About 20mph is fast enough to get some good jumping action and keep you entertained with a Bomber.

I am also thinking about ordering the spider gears to eliminate the front locker and run the front diff open. Should take a bit of binding out of the bomber and make it more challenging when actually crawling.

I am sure this is blasphemy!

I've got the same combo in my bomber with a 9t pinion. Works very well.
