| newbie w/ a scx10
Hello, new to the whole scale/crawler scene. I picked up a used scx10. Excited to tear down and rebuild it to learn the ins and outs. Any advice or tricks? This site is great, loaded with information. Thanks Last edited by 56effie; 08-15-2009 at 06:21 AM. |

The shocks probably need rebuilt so I would do that carefully. There is a thread in here on doing that if you search. I know one recommendation is to put teflon tape on the threads to keep them from leaking. If it isn't already done I would move the battery up front and the electronics to the back. This helps keep you planted much better. I would then weight the wheels if they aren't as well. Again it helps keep you planted better.

That's good advice, right there. As long as you're at it, move the steering servo to the frame with some simple alum brackets or servo mounts. Mine is parallel and tight against the inside of the front bumper. Still plenty of room for a 6 cell. With the pack upfront, it'll climb better than ever. Put the radio box in the rear for that "gas tank" look, but you'll need a servo extension wire to do it. Simple mods with great results Troy. |

The great thing about these trucks is that the mods to really get them to perform cost very little to free, they just take some time. Glad I could help. The only other thing I will mention is that you may look into the stampede shafts if your drive shafts start giving you issues like mine have done recently. It's really only the front and only since I went to 3s. |

This is a great kit. Moved the battery up front, installed an epic 27turn, Jr high torque metal gear servo. The previous owner installed 100mm RC4WD shocks, they don't seem to have too much artic. but I rebuilt them and will use them for now. I'm also running RC4WD python beadlocks and their Dirt Grabber tires. I will be swapping the tires for a much more aggressive tread in the near future. But for now this will work..

I just placed my order scx10 and a hitec water tight servo! I was searching around, is there an easy way to make a home made servo mount? Do i need to change the linkage if i mount it on the frame? |

Ran my SCX-10 for two hours yesterday. This really is a great truck. It has done way more than I thought it was capable of doing. Highly recommend it.

Glad you're having fun with it, it's a great little rig. I sometimes have "fun runs" with some friends who have full comp crawlers, they're often impressed by some of the stuff my 2.2'ed SCX gets up and over . I used the plastic mounting brackets the kit comes with, bolted them to the inside of the bumper and used a few spacers to ease the angle of the steering link. Turns just fine. Troy.
