| how to fit 2.2 tires
i'm looking at getting the honcho but would like to run bigger tires. i've searched thru about 50 threads trying to find out what has to be changed to run the bigger tires. of course i know new wheels/tires, but will they clear with just minor trimming?

ok so i would need some bigger/longer shocks to make them fit? sorry for the stupid questions, but this will be my first rc crawler. i'm coming from the fullsize world and have very limited knowledge about rc stuff. i'm having a hard time choosing between the scx-10 honcho, and the ax-10. i will not be doing any comps, mostly just fun in the backyard and out on the trails with the fullsizes. i've looked at some video's of the scx and ax and i can tell the scx is not quite as capable, but i can live with that for the better looks. i would definetely want the larger tires, so that's why i was asking. when i go to order a kit, i'll know which extra parts i would need to fit the tires. |

Longer shocks would work. Something in the 4" range would probably be about right. You could also use longer rod ends or make custom shock mounts and gain some ride height.

if you are running a honcho you will need to either buy longer shocks or at least longer shock rods, or you can hog out the fender wells, 2.2 is the wheel dia. so the honcho comes with 1.9 dia wheels and tires. if you run axial wheels you should buy axial hex hubs for the 2.2 wheel. the wheel has a larger hole for the axle to fit through and there is a large washer that fits inside the wheel also. it is a very very basic mod to do i would check the 2.2 section and look up scx10 style trucks the hubs are different from the honcho to the ax10 check axial's site you can look up the instruction manual for both, but as far as which truck to buy you are comparing apples to oranges. one is a more comp. style truck and the other is a scale rig( ie seem on the street) so i hope this helps a little and happy motoring |

You can run the honcho all stock with 2.2's. Just a little more trimming is needed. Here is mine on its snow tire set up |

I run 2.2s (Pro Line Hammers, just a hair under 5" overall) on both a Dingo and a Honcho with stock shocks and no trimming. On the Dingo, there is some minor binding without raising the body too high. Just remember not all 2.2s are created equal...while all will require a 2.2 wheel (inside diameter), some 2.2s will be under 5" outside diameter while others will be pushing a 5.5" outside diameter, making them a much larger tire. In fact, some 1.9 tires are larger than some 2.2s. It gets interesting, doesn't it? My suggestion...find some 2.2 wheels and tires you like, install them on the truck, and see where you end up. If you are like me and don't wanna do any body trimming and there is a clearance issue, a shock upgrade may be in order. Good luck...the tinkering is 98% of the fun IMHO.
