| Jeep body detachable top with rollbars.
Has anybody tried to make a Jeep body with the top cut off? I am looking at making one. Gonna start with a 2dr Wrangler to try it out. Going to fashion some scale rollbars too. Probably not functional but it will look good. I want to keep the top so that I can put it back on, maybe attach with some velcro or something. Any ideas on the rollbars would be helpful. I looked at some styrene at the LHS but didn't really like it. Also thought I might cut up a Honcho bed for the rails. Want it to look as scale as possible. Any help is appreciated. |

I saw some using a Dingo body/cage under the Proline 2-dr Wrangler that look pretty good. Not quite stock looking but still cool. La Jolla shores rock crawling - YouTube |

That is tuff. Did you scratch build that? That looks way better than I imagine the cut off lexan top from the body will look. I may have to give it a shot.

i didnt build it, but yes Obijuan scratch built it from flat styrene. edit: i just re-read your first post and realized this wasnt what you were asking about. you were talking about building a styrene cage, not a removable top. sorry |

Would like the top to go back on also. Was thinking of small tabs and velcro or something like that. But that is much closer to what I was thinking. Nice work on the top though!

I cut the top on my 2dr pro line body. I did a metal cage though. I made a clean cut with the dremel so i could re-use the hardtop. When i got it finished though...i realized that there's no way I'm going to cover up the cage work now. I think the cage needs to be pretty stout though. You'd have to glue it to the body if you weren't going to tie it into the frame...not sure how long the cage would stay attached to the body. Here's a shot with the dingo cage...a little too long but it could work Let me know if any pics from other angles would work |

Nice pics. Yeah, just getting started on laying it out. I really want it to look like my 1:1 '12 JK. Gonna try it out on the 2dr first and see if I like it before I cut up the 4dr.

If your trying to match a 4 door JK as closely as possible look at the newbright body. You'll get what your looking for a lot easier and better looking with the hardbody route.

But what fun is there is using a body that is mostly done for you? lol I would rather have the joy of something that I had to work hard on than just slap something on there. Not that there is anything wrong with that. But I do that with most of my other rc's already.
