Default why?

ive noticed some ppl have mounted the steering servo on the frame rail...why?

any benifit to it? i tried searching and didnt find much

Exactly. For the simple reason of that is where the steering box is on a 1:1 vehicle. Performance is 99% of the time better when mounted to the axle. So it is not for that.

Also, many non-stock axles don't have a place to mount the servo to the axle, so you mount it off the frame

Also those that comp their trucks get extra scale points for chassis mounted servo's, every point helps.. If you don't plan on competing and a big ugly servo hanging out on your front axle doesn't bug you.. Then leave it there.

Only reason I did one is my new axles didn't have the mounts

It does, however, get the servo and servo horn farther off the ground and away from rocks. I was always afraid of smashing the horn into a rock and ending my day

only problem i just ran into off a chassis mounted servo is that when the shocks reach full decompression it pull on the servo horn?
when the suspension is at full compression-to-mid-compression seems fine?

It'll put the servo a little higher so if you plan on playing in water.

What's the best way to set this thing up man?! I'm havin lots of truble with it but don't want to change it back cause I realy like the look.
