Weekend Warrior, Now A F650.

I know I know another Jeep. But it's not a Jk, it's a Tj. I have destroyed my Hilux body, and looking in my LHS they had a Hpi Tj Savage sized body for $25. It fits perfectly...
The body will be painted silver inside, metallic red outside with black fender flares and half roof.
VP trans, with Rpp gears,
Axial beadlocks,
Axial Od/ gears,
Proline Tsl's 4.3",
Hh 35t motor,
Crapptastic Hpi ESC,
Modded 2075,
Traxxas big bore shocks rear,
Stock axial front shocks,
Xr10 rear links, og ax10 front,
12.5" wheelbase,

On to the pics...

And the color...
Still need to paint the roof, going to let the color coat dry before masking and painting the fenders/roof/doors.http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/...pssmf4ylir.jpg

Flex, just about perfect...http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/...psqxul7s2a.jpg

Looking good so far. Like the links your using.
What LHS did you find the body at now that we have 3.. :) Blue Ribbon seems pretty sweet with the track and meets. Been out of the hobby a few years but after talking with Brian I've been working on a drift car and have my Rubi now..

Thanks man, picked it up @Hobby Town, new owners are great, even if they don't know much about Rc.
Once I have the body mounted we will have to go crawling, I have Sunday/Thursday's off work.

TAT76 05-25-2014 02:48 PM

Haha.. I checked HT out the other day for some dean plugs and they looked at me like I was an idiot.. Have new links coming Tuesday but down to hit a trail next Sunday.

Sunday sounds good, it will give me time to finish mounting the body, and maybe get some bumpers on.
BR knows the most,TH has the best selection, and TC is in the middle somewhere, from what I have experienced. Between the three, we can pretty much get anything needed.

Extended the rear frame rails, 1.5" longer than stock.http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/...psmcqtsws6.jpg

Spare tire mounted, and texture added to the black.

Bumpers next...

Re: Weekend Warrior

One thing I don't like is the molded winch, and really thin lexan in front,my solution(because scale ready's grills are out of stock)...
I might open it up a bit more.http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9zcps0hc.jpg
Made from .025 aluminum.

Wow man your kicking @zz today getting her done.. Looking good with the tire and that texture on the black. Did you decide on the tires your going to run? Right now I vote the TSL but will wait to see how your bumpers turn out.

Thanks, yeah got to spend a few hours yesterday and a couple hours today before I go to work. Definitely leaning towards the Tsl's.
Threw some paint on the grill...

The wife is mad at me now for spending so much time on the jeep, going to give her some time before work.

Looks like it is coming together nicely. How did you attach the grill? Double sided tape? You guys are lucky to have 3 hobby shops to choose from. I have only one and they specialize in card games. My vote is for the TSLs. I like mine a lot. I have no experience with the other tires though.

Thankyou , I am not happy with the grill just yet, going to open it up a bit more. Then I will Shoo Goo it in. Roklox used to be the hot comp tire, until pit bull brought out their tires. I will run the Tsl's, and try the roklox later.
We went for a dry spell for a while here as well regarding hobby shops. I bought a lot of stuff online because of that. Support your LHS, and they should support you... If they don't well Rpp and tower hobbies are great.

Re: Weekend Warrior

I opened up the grill a bit, and color matched it, I like it a lot better. The grill winch and bumper are just resting there for now, gotta pick up some small metric hardware to bolt everything together.http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9mfj82km.jpg

TAT76 05-27-2014 04:18 PM

Re: Weekend Warrior

Now I'm seeing what your throwing down..lol Grill looks way better then I thought it would but do wonder what it would look like behind the body. It may give it a more real look, maybe. ;) You adding more to the bumper or is that it?

lonleycreeper 05-27-2014 08:28 PM

Re: Weekend Warrior

It looks way better, I was playing with the grill placement before work today and discovered this...http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/...psm7bvuyrh.jpg

As for the bumper, I will run this one Sunday, then build a larger one later.

Added some stickers...http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/...psb7mzasa1.jpg

Also soldered in a newer Wp Hpi ESC.
I love the soft doors...

I can't believe how simple that bumper looks to make. It looks awesome. I may have to borrow your setup for my G6.

You're welcome. ShoeGoo is the modern man's duct tape. Personally, I carry it with me everywhere I go. ;-)

That's exactly what I used to secure my old RTR Rubicon interior into my Cherokee body. :)

Thank you, I ran only in the house to set up the electronics, the left over mud is from previous runs. I will run rain or shine. If your up for it I know Slowgo is up for it.

Borrow away, I was thinking about it a lot, and decided simple is better.

Forecast is calling for 50% chance of rain so depending on how much we get on Saturday I may not make it. I'm not waterproofed so I'm not going to take a chance and set myself back. Other then that I'm set to go with my new links and CMS installed. "thumbsup"

I picked up a small 2s lipo for the winch today.http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/...psxzfvgxr8.jpg

Also got the ESC mounted.
http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1jiorpfy.jpg

Still need to change the leads on the winch controller, and figure out a rear body mount.

Thanks, now I just have to make a matching front bumper...

She is ready for our run tomorrow, I still have a bit of work left on her like lights/buckets, spare tire mount, front bumper, fire extinguisher/ highlift mounts, drop bed, and inner fenders. She is water resistant, as I am confident going into water up to the bottom of the chassis, just not submerging the receiver box or battery's.

lonleycreeper 05-31-2014 10:15 PM

Re: Weekend Warrior

I finally figured out the rear body mounts. I was sitting in my hobby room over thinking it, and I found a couple of traxxas front body mounts. Then it occurred to me make this easy... Mounted them to the bumper after a little trimming, and some drilling...

She ran very well today, climbed better than any previous truck I have had. I was able to climb some previously impossible obstacles. Winch worked great, tires worked really good(go g 8 ) temps stayed nice and cool. In other words I couldn't be happier.
A little rock rash on the fender.

I understand about life...
The trail is truly epic, and the further you go down it the better it gets.
There were a couple of sections that used to previously stop my rigs, even on 2.2, 5" tall tires this little guy climbed it without much drama. Slowgo caught one of them on video. Waiting on his edit...
Slow go and I will be hitting it again in two weeks, planning on every other Sunday, you are always welcome.

Re: Weekend Warrior

I tweaked the snot out of the first bumper I made....
So version two is made from 1\8" aluminum.
http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/...psbrprpkce.jpg
This is just a quick bumper until I get more aluminum.
And put a bed floor in, and you cannot see it but I made a new tire mount.
