Default My Deadbolt. Always changing

So I procured some Proline beadlocks from a member here and mounted up a set of Rockbeast XOR tires I had.
Front wheels are fairly heavily weighted too.

At the same time I sawpped out the stock diff gears for Axial HD beveled. I went to overdrive in the front and left the rear ratio stock.

WOW...the truck would already climb over most anything but NOW, I can feel the front digging more on steep climbs. Seems to trun a bit quicker now as well.

Here are a few pics from checking out a new spot yesterday near my house.

love the Rockbeast XOR's

Very nice, how do you like those compared to the stock trepadors?

I do a lot of trailing and mudding, I think that the stickiness of the stock tires is wasted on me

way more grab than the Trepadors IMO, and wider and softer (these are the competition rubber) so more side bite when shoving the truck into gaps and cracks.

The standard Rockbeasts have solid blocks and probably wear better.

Seemed fine for trailing as well. They do hold mud though.

Nice. IMO, overdriving the front on my scx10 made a huge difference in turning and climbing. Also, it's not that noticable when driving on pavement.

Since we do a lot of trails, I also decided to start easy by just doing the overdrive fronts. it IS noticable.
No discernable drag on pavement.

That's the way I run mine....I think the under drive in the rear is way over rated

How does the OD affect wear and higher speed capability?

I prefer to underdrive the rear and leave the front stock, and adjust for the gearing difference at the motor pinion. This makes the tranny to axle driveshaft spin faster for the same amount of torque and speed applied at the rear tire. It reduces torque twist vs stock rear and also makes said driveshaft less prone to twisting.

OD front (or UD rear) makes a vehicle oversteer more. Can make handling at speed difficult, and can make the truck suck down and hook into climbs better. Mostly I run stock gearing or underdrive on both axles (with taller motor pinion) for best runtime and overall handling on a trail rig.

Thanks John for the advice.
Sitting at my work table tonight puttering about thinking about finishing a big sailplane I started when I had a few ideas for the Deadbolt body. It's starting to show wear so I don't feel bad for hacking a bit.

My son saw the driver's head I mounted and recognized it from a mini baseball bobble head he had and said " if that's supposed to be you it needs glasses and long hair"
So I used an old paintbrush some glue and viola. Long hair. Now to solder some glasses.

Then I took some old moldy canvas and made a soft top with a rolled up rear section

Then I decided to remove part of the rear roll cage to make it easier to get to the body pins, and to make it look different.
Because that removed a brace, I went through my pile of Axial plastic and saw the perfect parts tree to donate as a brace. Perfect!

What do you think?

Nice truck, I'm running growlers right now but see beast's in my near future.
I run 43//13 front and rear with a vp dig, personally never cared for an over or under gear f/r axle, but this is just me.
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.ie different front and rear drive axles gear ratios.
This will indeed improve some aspects of the rig characteristic but have other negative effects, imo anyway.
I am however very new to the crawling portion of the hobby so my opinions should be taken as a noobs.
To end my rambling your truck is sweet, I'm buying the wive a deadbolt soon and its great to get ideas from all you pros out there.
Also we have to rememmber we all like different things, all that matters is your happy with your rigs performance.

Love the canvas touch. Really makes it unique and it's cool to see people getting creative. Good ideas.

Thanks Guys....pretty noobish with R/C trucks myself.

I really thought the Deadbolt owners would "get" the "choose your head wisely" bar.

I think of all the uses of the spare plastic from the parts tress from Axial...that this was the absolute best.

And not one person asked me what "FYYFF" means!?!?

Ok explain to me the difference between over driving the front or under driving the rear. Either way the front is turning faster.

OK...now remember, this is coming from a noob, but I do have a basic understanding.
Either choice you suggested has the front wheels spinning faster than the rear.
This does allow the front to turn easier in tight places, and also inhibits the rear from flipping the car back on steep climbs.
I had already planned on replacing the stock gears in the diffs with Axial's machines beveled gears, and decided to just overdrive the front.
Guys that do comp, where every point lost backing up means something will do both...underdrive rear and overdrive front. Myself and my buddy do a lot a trail hiking, and wanted the minimalist approach...and like the result. On pavement you can just barely discern that the tires drag a bit here and there.

How much 'forgiveness' do you think the slipper clutch is allowing for?
