Imthatguy builds an SCX10 II Box. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/DFjZeL.jpg Construction greet. Very board. Assembled much. Sent right way up. Thank Axial. Turk. |
Re: Imthatguy builds an SCX10 II Better get that on your bench quick before it gets crushed by a bowling ball. :ror: |
Re: Imthatguy builds an SCX10 II Got the box in the workshop. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/2Hqe4J.jpg That's it for today. |
Re: Imthatguy builds an SCX10 II you opened it. don't lie. :) its empty -ish in that last pic. I see the creases. |
Re: Imthatguy builds an SCX10 II Now this is a build at a pace I can relate to. If the next pictures are of your kids stealing the tires out of the box to claim them as toys or wearing the body like a hat then you may actually be living my life. |

Re: Imthatguy builds an SCX10 II The suspense is killing me! What could possibly be inside?! |
Re: Imthatguy builds an SCX10 II congrats with the purchase! good luck with the build! |
Re: Imthatguy builds an SCX10 II Who knows, maybe by tomorrow he'll have step 1 done, then the next day step 2... :lmao: |
Re: Imthatguy builds an SCX10 II It's nice to see a build thread with someone who hasn't already finished before making the first post. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has barely started. |
Re: Imthatguy builds an SCX10 II :flipoff:I saw the creases on the box. just kidding though. you should open one plastic bag at a time and take a picture. then screw by screw, part by part... take a picture. good slow pace. |
Re: Imthatguy builds an SCX10 II love what youve done with it! dibs |
Re: Imthatguy builds an SCX10 II It looks a bit ridged to me. How's about a flex shot? |
Re: Imthatguy builds an SCX10 II |
Re: Imthatguy builds an SCX10 II Nobody pointed out that Handicorn is printed all over the inside of the box. That's what you discover when you pour over the details and investigate every little part. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/yJp2od.jpg Also, I built the axles. I'm truly amazed at the reduction in size over all. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/Du69ZS.jpg Even compared to an aftermarket option from SSD for the OG SCX10 axle, which greatly reduced the sizing overall, these new ones are downright miniscule. Sure, the Ascender axles are nearly the same, but there's something more accurate about the way these look to me. Plenty of strength too. This feels like new plastic. Very impressed. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/HZVc21.jpg They went together without issue, bearings in all the right places, proper angle on steering bits, no parts missing or any binding. Go slow and don't over tighten the screws that hold the diff cover on, if you do, the gears won't spin smoothly. |
Re: Imthatguy builds an SCX10 II definitely new plastic. I bet it slides over rocks better than vaterras. |
Re: Imthatguy builds an SCX10 II Axial also fixed vaterra's cvd breaking and torque twist issues Sent from my SM-G920T using Tapatalk |
Re: Imthatguy builds an SCX10 II Assembled the links last night. Great to see 4mm hardware, stronger beveled end links and beefier rod ends. The diagrams are very easy to follow and should not give you much trouble. Do pay attention to which way the ball ends are installed as it does make a difference. |
Re: Imthatguy builds an SCX10 II Wow, got a lot accomplished today. Some folks were having issue getting the shock spring adjusters on. Simple fix, carve away some of the plastic from the top. Easy. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/pFkw16.jpg Gave the new Pit Bull shock oil a go. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/lRHuM6.jpg Couple other things on the shocks. Bummer they're not the dual rate springs of yore - I really liked those shocks, and the Titanium Nitride pistons are gone from this kit as well. No matter, I'm sure to upgrade these down the road - the tradeoff is vastly outweighed by the rest of the awesome of this kit. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/hhLcZj.jpg Really like the look of the new trans/transfer case combo. Obviously larger than the outgoing trans, but I think overall, because it's lower in the chassis and the weight is more evenly distributed, it shouldn't be an issue. Curious to see how it holds up to some brushless abuse. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/tSCtwH.jpg One of the details I really like, and will definitely get used down the road, is the servo winch mount that they built into the chassis. Comp-oriented thinking makes me a happy guy. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/4Dkueh.jpg That little thing towards the center of the photo is a routing tube for the winch line. So cool. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/VoOrdm.jpg For now, because I wanted to keep it stock for testing purposes, I'm plopping an SSD Ox winch on the front. Had to drill some new holes as the mounting plate is larger. Axial left plenty of room for any number of winches to be mounted. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/LkDucQ.jpg All done. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/NI5wRM.jpg Fit and finish is great, there's a ton of nice detail work on a lot of the molded pieces, which adds another layer of realism. Attention to detail was definitely the name of the game. All in all, a very enjoyable kit to build. Nothing that threw me for a loop, nothing missing, and definitely a fun build. The tires may seem big, but for this body they're pretty proportionate. Smooth driveline, great steering, optimal weight balance, CMS, forward battery, room for a servo winch, new link geometry, smaller pumpkin axles, the list goes on. Can't wait to get the body finished, apply some power, and take it outside. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/V1PI0n.jpg I like the red diff covers, but dulled/weathered them with a wash from Citadel that I had sitting around. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/1tyD6Z.jpg Well now, what's this? http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/nfY5CH.jpg |
Re: Imthatguy builds an SCX10 II I tried my Honcho body on it, it doesn't work. The cage & body has to be cut to work with the new trans. |

One minor cut in the cage and another in the body and I'm on my way to a Jeepspeed. |

Re: Imthatguy builds an SCX10 II HAAA HA HA HA :lmao: "front porch" I like where this is going. those links look to clean compared to the diff covers right now... :flipoff: |

Re: Imthatguy builds an SCX10 II the dingo fits nice inside my proline xj as interior. but its not full interior. the honcho rear cage should be sweet. |
Re: Imthatguy builds an SCX10 II Im going to try and use the Dinky Universal interior |
Re: Imthatguy builds an SCX10 II Of all the builds so far that's the only one to point out the servo winch setup thanks for the info! "thumbsup" |

Re: Imthatguy builds an SCX10 II I saw those wheels today. I kinda want them, but dang at the price. |
Re: Imthatguy builds an SCX10 II Quote:
I don't get it. I've seen a couple folks moving the trans around to flip it, and while that certainly makes it look more, realistic-ish, you have to give up a lot straight away. 1. You lose the servo winch mount 2. You nullify the waterproof receiver box 3. You change the vehicle's near-perfect weight distribution 4. You reduce battery tray size. All in the effort to make more room for an interior? I can definitely work around the hump as it is, and not have to modify anything! Maybe I'm underthinking it? |
Re: Imthatguy builds an SCX10 II I've been scratching my head at that too, I won't lie the realism of the tcase on the rear would be great but I haven't been able to figure out a way while retaining all the good things. |
