Xtra Speed axle

Finally received my axle for the front of my rig. Everything mounted to it perfectly. Added 100 grams and ran me $25 shipped. http://i1243.photobucket.com/albums/...pswl4pozoy.jpg

Nice where did you get it from? How long did it take to get your order?

Xtra Speed Alloy Front Rear Axle Housing Axial SCX10 II RC Cars #XS-SCX230056BK | eBay

they look pretty good...hows the fit and finish of them?

Re: Xtra Speed axle

The fit and finish is excellent. I have the counterpart for my Bomber and those are about 4mm narrower so I had to modify the lockouts and the c hubs to fit. Not on these, everything bolted on perfectly. http://i1243.photobucket.com/albums/...psex9rcwjt.jpg

Re: Xtra Speed axle

I appreciate the fact that it's literally the stock axle - down to just about every little aesthetic detail - except made from aluminum. (Unlike a lot of other ones where they're completely redesigned.

If it's as decent as it looks, then getting that for $25 is a pretty boss deal. (especially compared to the Currie axles)

Definitely not ferrous. Won't know until I break it I guess, it is a cast piece from the looks of it though.

It just came in and was installed yesterday. There is snow on the ground right now but should melt by the weekend. I will update as soon as I have some time on it.

Pot metal is generally referred to as low quality metal, not a specific type of aluminum or steel.

I like the looks and price but skeptical about strength if indeed being casted. Let us know how durable they are.

Re: Xtra Speed axle

Got my axles today and i must say for 25 bucks a piece, they are nice. Virtually identical in dimensions to the plastic ar44 axle housings. Ordered them from eBay which was done through RCmart in Asia. Took about two weeks to arrive. Everything was threaded and utilized the OE hardware. I'm very happy with the fit. Mated to all my strc aluminum bit fine too.

I have also ordered a pair after rounding off the splines on one side of my stock front plastic axle. I'll be using them with SSD c-hubs up front and will update when I get them installed and tested.

I also rounded the splines on one side of my stock housing on my first big run... is that usual? anyone else have this problem with aluminum chubs and stock axles? I pulled the trigger on a set of these last week so now its the waiting game. If these work out nice I might build a set for my old scx10 jeep.

I just posted this same question on a facebook page. I stripped my splines on the stock housing in less than two hours on my first run. I am also using ssd chubs. I ordered these housings about a week and a half ago. Seems like a great value. We will see

Re: Xtra Speed axle

Got my xtra speed axle housings today! I am so impressed for less than $50 shipped for both! They are beautiful and was a breeze to install. Only problem I had was getting the internal (larger) drive shaft bearing in. Seemed that the paint made it just too tight of a squeeze. After some careful dremeling they were perfect. Just the housing itself weighed more than the entire stock front axle with the Ssd chubs, knucks, and axial axle shafts. More than 100grams more than stock. Gonna take a wire wheel to the diff covers as soon as I can and get that red off of there! Anyone looking for new housings, I suggest these!

will be interesting to see how these hold up after some time goes being run on the rocks and taking tumbles as well...

Re: Xtra Speed axle

I think I like the diff covers silver. A wire wheel made short work of the red.

Based off of the reviews here, I went and ordered a set of the axle housings. My buddy also got some for his V1 SCX10, which add double the weight these do apparently.

Has anyone found these incompatible with certain other parts?

Re: Xtra Speed axle

Imagine these axles mated with those new brass knuckles from Hot Race. So much weight down low.

I don't think it's been discussed exactly what metals are used to make the alloy in these Xtraspeed housings, but you may want to spray some clear coating over the silver diff cover to prevent rusting. I think they look more scale with the silver instead of red, but I like having the protective coating for at least my first couple of runs lol.

Shawns303 01-12-2017 12:47 PM

Re: Xtra Speed axle

It is aluminum, no rust. The bearings all around are a great fit. I am using steel pivot balls in the links, needed to sand the paint down to fit in the link mounts. Don't have a ton of time on them but so far so good.

The axle is a clone of the stock. The Axial covers do fit and I would imagine any aftermarket would as well.

Ah, I was under the impression they were alloy, not 100% aluminum. Thanks for clarification.
