So I know a lot of people buy this rig for the scale of it. Anyone else annoyed that it comes with coils in the rear on the Jeep version. The jeep XJ is a leaf spring rear...

I know you can change the body but it just seems like an oversight lol.

They're coilovers
They make leaf conversation if you want it to perform shitty.

Also, my buddy has a 1:1 xj on full widths thats coilover on all 4 corners. If you was it as scale as possible scratch build a unibody xj crawler that rusts out in scale time. Lol

It isn't built to be a 100% scale, accurate rig-
it has a frame, instead of being a unibody
the front diff is centered, where it drops on the side of a full size rig
yada yada yada.

It is designed to be scale-ish, but the priority is crawling performance.
If you are more interested in absolute scale authenticity, get an RC4WD machine.

Axial does this for a reason- they want the buyer to have a more body-compatible rig, and having leafs would compromise that, and the crawling capability.

The truth is, this hobby is and hopefully will always be a diy/builders hobby. These trucks are a reasonable facsimile of the full size counterpart. By using the off the shelf kit as a starting point to what will eventually be a unique representation of what you (the end user) want. If you don't like something build it, fix it, change it.

On an xj cherokee, yes. The zj grand cherokee had coils and links on both front and rear.

Word is it was going to but the engineers fought over whether to give it a 4 cylinder, V6 or inline 6 so they scrapped the idea completely and went electric for more carbon credits.

Yep the XJ has leafs. They are a pig to change on a 20 year old vehicle. I have a 4.0 1997 and recently I installed a 3" lift kit and 31" tyres. I wont be in a hurry to do it again. Leafs are shit, give me coilovers anyday of the week.

Really? I changed my saggy old add a leaf for new 3.5 inch Rubicon Express leafs a few weeks ago on my 98. It was easy. This XJ has absolutely no rust though.

I had to add a SYE, brake line, shocks, and rear driveshaft too. I was surprised how easy that all went together. Front is next but it will take me a little bit to save up for the long arm. I'm going to 4.5" and will just add longer shackles on the rear.
