Default Let's try a RCSA class 0 (gulp) lexan Power Wagon...

Loving whats going on with these new RCSA scale rules and that's what's used at the few events we attend.
So building my daughter a new build. Based off an scx10-2 kit.

Just the basic kit. The tricks and tips everyone already does to them so nothing new there.

Wanting a light rig I decided on lexan over hard body. Don't worry, once completed I'll file the appropriate paperwork for a lexan permit.
So she decided on the 46' Dodge Power Wagon. Nice. I love old military trucks.

Now class 0 rules require something on the body opens. Hmmmmm. Ok, need scale points anyways so might as well kill one bird with two stones. Yeah. Something like that.

No turning back now.
Going to use magnets for mounting but used two of the slider holes to put 3mm studs in to "capture" the body and keep it aligned.

And so it begins. This won't be a fast build but it has to be done by April for RC4WD's 2nd annual Krawlfest in the Smokies.

Removed all the springy things sticking up above the chassis rails.
And just using these to mock things up right now.

This would work but I have better plans for her. More points coming.

So I made a box. A square box.

While sniffing drying glue I modified the stock 10-2 bumper for width.

Much more better.

i'm guessing tail gate.

I've been loving smaller and smaller trucks over the past 4 years. Maybe they are just getting too capable and I'm into the challenge of driving. might build a class zero for myself here soon, I've got a few extra rigs sitting around. Maybe unimog with trx axles or something.

Same here. Never was into the dedicated comp rigs. I enjoy building them as close to scale as I can.
Start a build. It's not that hard to do.

I have been thinking the same in regard to the bed, but i have not been able to make myself go cantilever or shorter lay down suspension like here.
Also been down the road of using the leaf springs that saw pretty much 0 use on my TF2, abut also decided against this.

I want my PW body and its running boards to be as low as the bottom side of the frame rails, otherwise i think the PW body sit too high and i am not going for the strong modified look but more of a garage improved ride.
Besides i am not able to spend much more money or time on my little project.
And it is very limited what i can do at home on my living room table with the very little tools i have, so have to go visit former places of work and leech on their tools ASO.
And i really dont want to add much more weight than i have already done down low on the axles, so i see no need for a bed where more weight can go.
+ things like scale points, well its not really anything we deal with here in Denmark, at least not at the moment, but i doubt the scale scene will ever that that big here.

BUT ! enough BS, looking forward to see where this land

Alright time to get a bounce on this project. I played around with things last night. Not finalized just yet but we are getting somewhere.

GCM mounts came in. Picked up the recommended ecx shocks too.

Moved the front shackle mount forward and drilled two new holes. This kept the 12.3" wheelbase.

Mounted to axle with washer and o rings.

This is just mocked up with shoulder bolt and nut on backside. I have a stronger plan. Stay tuned.

We have a functional leaf setup. I think. Going to play around with it some more this weekend.
And plenty of body work coming up.

How's the alignment of the leaf springs mounts on the chassis compared to the axle? Are the leafs nice and square?

Looking at my project on the living room table behind me it seem like its not 100% but it is damn close and i can not see it should cause any issues.

Just threw something strait up against the rail to illustrate.

That looks absolutely awesome with the leaf springs. I would not have guessed that you could get that much range out of those. I've got the same body and while I don't have that much RC modelling experience, I'm taking notes here. I'm really interested it the leaf springs an I can't wait to see more progress on this build.

Couple more details done.

And a better way of mounting rear shackle.

Looking good!

Are you also going to run a shock with no coil spring in the rear to dampen?

Thanks.
Planning on running ecx shocks but haven't figured out a mounting configuration yet.

Keeping this build going. Finally started the interior. Have basic frame done.

Glued a few tabs inside the body to capture the interior and keep it in place. I like to tape my interiors in with strips of Gorilla tape for ease of removal.

Still more to do but have a good start on it.
