3D printed tummy tuck skid?

Anyone running one of these? I happened across them online and had a coworker print up a pair. The yellow won’t flow with what I’ve got going on but I think I can die or paint the top/sides at least. I don’t remember the filament he used but can ask again if anyone is concerned.

It has a countersink area for the motor and the tranny hole is also recessed a little. It feels quite sturdy and is a lot harder than the stock skid. Which would also make it brittle and not give any on impacts.

Looks good.

I can not see from the picture in what orientation you have printed it.
For that design and its use, if you print it vertically will be much stronger than if printed horizontally.

I took a look at it and it’s printed horizontally. Strong for the skid and weak for the link mounts. It still feels very strong. I could barely bend the skid any and the mounts are just as stout.

Can we upload it to Shapeways? Their printed parts are amazing!

Yes you can but it costs $50+ to print.

Uploading somebody else's design to Shapeways may or may not violate their rules of upload.

Uploading it for profit certain violates the fair use rules.

There's this one: https://www.shapeways.com/product/FE...ith-ultra-skid

It's far cheaper than buying a printer... And probably far stronger than a cheap printer can make.

That's reasonable. I suppose I could always try to design my own. Hmmmmmmm.

You could always contact the designer on Thingiverse and ask him if he minds if you upload it on Shapeways for your use only. Or just ask him if he'd be willing to upload it himself.

That looks familiar, without the "tuck"... It's $55.00, but I've purchased several SLS Nylon Prints before, for other Rigs, with excellent results. If I had it, I would get that one, just for the adjustable upper Link mounts, so I can help get rid of some Torque Twist and squat.

Re: 3D printed tummy tuck skid?

I installed one of these skids today. All the holes need to be drilled some and the lower link bolt holes were a chore. I ended up drilling them all with a 2.5mm bit to make them uniform. I had to step up to a 7/32” to countersink for the bolt heads to the lower links because the skid is ‘tucked’ up and these holes are now behind the chassis.

I couldn’t run my 550 can so I swapped in a 45 turn RC4WD 540 that hasn’t died yet. It’s a tight fit against the interior and is actually making contact but barely. I used the highest mounting point for the upper links and will see how that fares for now. Visually it looks taller, but I know it isn’t. The geometry is OK but the axle mounted servo now hits the chassis. I’ll add a few mm to the lower links and it should rotate the servo clear.

I printed one up with PLA, ABS would be the better choice here.
As far as printing thru Shapeways, look at the Creative Commons license for use. Most Thingaverse files have outside links for printing.
This is a short can Tekin redline3 Motor on a wraith transmission.
(I noticed this one on your link)

3D printed tummy tuck skid?

Have you installed and ran it yet? I have a junk Wraith chassis I’ve been ‘slimming’ down some. I’ve got it fitting into a Chinese copy of an Axial Jeep. Cut the lower portion off for a tummy tuck a long time ago and now I have this skid. I may do it as a double tummy tuck and use the scx10 axles I have left over. Maybe...one day...

Nope, I need the cage, to put it together, can’t find a cheapie yet.
I’ve got links, axles and a servo, wheels hubs, tires and foams. Will need to build some driveshafts also

I’ve been watching this build and cage to see how it works out.

While waiting for the cage, went to jennysrc and found cheap links, driveshafts and hubs. The links will give me length and bends need for allthread and tubing. Driveshafts ate wildboar takeoffs, some yeti stock shocks, we are close.......

Skrappy will be the name, as it’s not scrap but skrap! Leftover, made parts, modified parts, see if it climbs!

going to kick this old thread... how has this held up??? I'm printing one.... anyone break a link mount?

Re: 3D printed tummy tuck skid?

I would be surprised if this held up to much rigor. Delamination can be an issue with FDM printed parts subject to a lot of stress.
