Default A bomber is born...

There is a bit of a story to this creation...

It started a really long time ago in a land far far away (Mid 90's Auckland NZ) with a Tamiya Prerunner. The sweet 4wd TA02 truck. My parents bought it for me for xmas, it was like $600 NZD at the time which was huge money in 1994 (I was shocked, I had longed for this truck for a year and NEVER expected to own one). Ever since then I was hooked.

Currently I am loving the scale craze,(not that I actually build anything that looks 'scale')

I started with a Yeti TT kit I purchased used but unbuilt. then I picked up a used Poison Spider, and a used SCX10.

I upgraded the rear end on the TT with some SSD arms, centre pumpkin wide diamond axle, and links. Then upgraded everything on the PS (build thread to come) and well I was left with axles, diffs, transmission, links, arms and so on.

I had planned to build a Wroncho but i decided that if i built a standard 1.9 SCX10 I could build something else too....

I was sitting at work reading over the forum, looking for ideas, when I came across a wraith trans on a bomber skid and had a light bulb moment.

All I actually needed to buy to build this was the cage and skid! so it was a no brainer. (course I didnt just stop there did I...)

And then 'BOOM' the WR/Bomber is born. (I am hesitant to call it a Wromber as i think i will put a bomber trans in it when I find one. but today it is a Wromber )

Excitingly the steel xtraspeed cage arrived today, and the skid came yesterday. I think i should have a running car buy the end of the day!

I will upload more pics when I get home.

Tamiya prerunner eh? I think a B1B kit might fit this build pretty well ;)

Here is my base set up, pretty close to stock bomber aside from the trans....

Some more progress, have everything installed. I'm not going to use this shock set up moving forward, just wanted to get it running, unfortunately I purchased the xtraspeed HD gear set for a wraith, and it's aweful. It's cheap and nasty and has rubbish fitment. I should have known better. Anyway I need to fit a new spur gear as the xtra speed metal gear isn't even freaking round. As the tigers v blues games is about to start (Aussie rules) I've had enough for tonight... Let me know your thoughts guys

Rig is looking good. I’ve been curious what these cages will look like finished out. If you have the ability would you weigh the cage by itself the next time it’s off the skid.

That is correct.

It is really heavy. I'll have it apart in the next couple of days and I'll weigh it.

Just had a drive in the back yard. Crawls really well, and has lots of speed potential, but with the heavy cage it Is roll over city, just ordered the sway bar kit.... Also need to sort out the shocks.

All is very promising. On a plus there is sweet droop with the heavy rig...

I also have a bomber trans on the way... Found one for 40 bucks completed delivered to Aus so couldn't pass it up.

Once I have all the suspension sorted, I'll see about getting some panals done too

Looking good, you might need to get knuckle weights and/or brass beeftubes to bring the cog down.

Or just a sway bar, mine is fairly stock and it rolled a lot before I got one.

The B1B kit is an IFS kit for the Bomber.

How is the quality of that cage? I'd be afraid it would easily bend and be heavy.

I'm also interested to see how you like that purple motor. I've looked at it many times.

I'm surprised the Xtra Speed gears aren't made right. I've had good luck with their stuff. How far is the spur out of round?

The spur is enough out of round the the Pinion will bind on one side, then skip on the other....

Yeah I can see the heavy steel cage being an issue. But that makes it really scale.
Going to need heavy axles like MasterofFlego said.
Beef tubes, Beef patties, maybe weighted wheels too. And solid axles like Curries or VP v2's.

Really appreciate everyone's input!

I will give the weighting ideas a go, I have a few options in mind.

Luckily,
I have decided to run big power in this, (which will cope with the extra weight)
I have a 4268 2450kv 4pole sensored motor to go into the bomber trans when it arrives, and a MMX esc. so 2-6s options (will probably only run on 3s).

The purple motor is actually from one of my go fast touring cars, its 5400kv and i ran it on 4s (in a 1/10 on road car). Personally I think they are the best band for your buck sensorless motor you can buy. (was $25 ish) I actually was only using it as it was already soldered up with the 4mm plugs for my SW4.

My initial impression of the cage is that it is well made. It is steel so it will bend when hit. Hopefully the welds will hold up... Time will tell. Based on my limited time, id recommend it for the $35 I paid from RC mart.

heck yeah man the price alone makes it worth it even if just for a scale rig build or to use it as a template for fabbing up an aluminum tig welded one!

that's 1.7637 pounds

Not HORRIBLE. I think a stock Bomber weighs around 7 LB. Definitely going to end up being a 12 LB rig by the time you add weight to axles to even it out.

New motor

3665 3190kv its nice and long for more torque, paring it up with an sw4 for the moment, I throw in the standard 540 for comparison

Coming along nicely, have the gmade xd's installed, seems to be riding nose high, might need to get droop extenders for the front shocks... Also seems there is a winch mount which hits the servo, I think I'll have to cut out a bit to get more travel. Will post a pic soon

In stock form the rear shocks ***have more spring rate*** than the front shocks. But considering your rollover complaints I’d suggest to ***lower the front spring rates instead and add some thicker oil.***
