Default Home made front dig setup

I couldn't order the punk switch when i ordered my xr so I figured out a different approach on making my xr10 capable of doing a front dig.

Basically what i got going on here is im switching the power on and off to the rear motor.

What i did:
I first mounted a servo on the rear plate and then took a ax10 beadlock ring and cut it in half. After cut, I grabbed one end of the ring with pliers and bent it 90 degrees. Then screwed it down using the 2 holes which meant adding a hole in the housing right beside the screw that keeps the straight axle ends on. I used a small 3 way switch that can handle 120v at 6a and tightened it on one of the slots in the beadlock ring. At last i attached a link from the servo horn to the switch using solder to keep the end link attached to the switch. It works flawlessly!!! ill try to get some video

Sooooo, this works by just jamming a piece of metal into the rim? like a stick in a bike spoke??

LOL as long as you dont bind and grind the gears to shit, thats kinda cool!

there is a switch back there, the beadlock ring appears to act as a guide to actuate the lever on the switch/hold the switch, and it just cuts power to the rear motor.

I really dig the stick in the spokes idea though.

that makes a little more sense now!!!!

all it needs is a little Duct tape for some added charm!

Points for creativity, how do you plan on getting rear dig?

haha nothing is in the wheel, damn close though........ the beadlock ring acts as a mount for the switch (not a guide) and is bolted on the end of the axle where the straight axle adapters go on. The whole setup is securely attached to the axle and doesn't create any binding or stress.

could easily be added with another switch just like the dig box in the stickied write up, one for each axle, maybe slap on some duct tape for the chrome look

i just figured that for people on a budget this is a good alternative for a dig switch so you can do front digs on the fly with any 3 channel controller.

I like your enginuity.

This is what we all used on our Bergs before punk digs. You need a 3 position 3 ch radio. They work great and can be made for less than $20. Gives you both front and rear dig. Most of us did not use the box as it was too big. My Dig Switch Box!

I think he just ran to Radio Shack for more parts!

Maybe he had never seen the dig switch before this thread?

Ha ha. Funny. What amp are those micro switches rated for anyways? And I guess his remote has to be able to set EPA's?

Like i already said, the punk switch wasn't available when i ordered my xr and the micro switch can handle 120v @ 6a,

I have about 10, 40 min. runs since adding the setup and havn't had any issues. Im using a dx3e radio so I can adjust my endpoints on the servo.
