Default Boca Orange overkill?

Howdy dudes and ladies too

So, i recently purchased all the axial steel gears and ti shafts...i did this bc i blew out the rear bearings on the final drive gear...carpet wheelies are fun

So, i need 4 new final gear bearings for the upgrade. I have spec'ed out some Boca Orange bearings for this. They are sealed, ceramic, greased, and the top on the food chain for bearings from this brand. My question is this-

Is anyone running these in their xr now? Here is the part number smr670zc-205 - they are 19.00 a piece. I don't want to ever have to buy them again. Will they work? Are they overkill? I spec'ed them using their online tool for upgrading brand name trucks. So i know they fit...the operating temp is 121 degrees... Let me know what you all think.

Thanks as always, in advance for the help
Paul

Overkill.... yes!

All bearings need to be replaced eventually. Unless you are dropping the coin to do the entire rig in full ceramic (balls and races), you will not get the benefit of the reduced friction.

Yes, eventually i would replace all of them with oranges from boca...the cost to do it today is 350.00 i am sure i would be couch surfing if i tried to pull that with the wife today but 4 final gear bearings and possibly the axel ends in orange shouldn't be too noticeable to her....hehe, she is the real obstacle in any upgrade.

So, when you say races and balls.....i don't think any of their ceramics come with ceramic races...only stainless. I am not trying to reduce friction as much as i amm trying to bullet proof my gear train and bearing setup....so, do you think doing this piece by piece is a bad idea? Should i do it all at once or not at all? And...if not orange, but still boca, then what material?

Thanks sir!!!!! For the help and input!

Yes, vp cases and plates....all axial hardened steel gear sets, axial ti shafts, vp lockouts, knuckles and chubs....axial links, the aluminum ones....2 35t HH hand wounds, two GDR, and a 4pks..... I just need to sort out the being issue and buy a ugh viper or bj4... Can't decide

So - bearings gtg? In your opinion jeepkid?

And thanks man, for taking the time to read and reply to my questions

You dont need to replace the tran cases or plate bearings as VP include bocas with them. I am running 35turn brood motors with stock axle bearings without an issue. When I tair it down in the next week I will then replace the bearings, but I got 80+hours on the stock bearings if that tells you how long they have lasted me. Bocas are nice though and if you can dish the cash out cool. I say run the stocks. Just soak them in some bearing oil for a day and they should hold up till you want to go all boca.

Thanks man! I will take your advise into consideration. I am hesitant to only do the final drive bearings first....i have to do something though bc mine didn't last 5 minutes....i helped them in their death though...i flipped the truck once on carpet and that's all it took....

So, if i did have tihe money and a good divorce attorney ...
Is there any disadvantage to only updating the final and end bearings first? Besides the obvious uneven wear and tear?

I was looking at some CO2 car bearings the other day, they are FULL ceramic

Orange for the rig are overkill.

Jeepkid pretty well covered the rest. I run the $1 each Boca's or $1 each Avid's and have in my RC's for years with the exception of a few speed machines I have had.

Ceramics are nice, but unless you have LOTS of disposable income not really necessary in a crawler.

I have them in my motors, no where else.

Careful!!! If you decide to source the entire set of bocas in any configuration, you will need to take into consideration the following-

If you are running any vp plates or cases, i believe, they are larger sized than the stock bearings...in the cases to be specific and maybe the plates too...anyways, if you get the boca kit and don't double check you might wind up with some bearings that will be too small bc of the upgraded size in the vp stuff...

This is why i am only sourcing the final gear bearings... I am sure of the size...it's stock in that location

Just FYI...
Thanks paul

Yep, you will only use like 14 bearings from the kit.

I added up the Cost & Weight of Full Ceramic Bearings:
This was spec. for twin front axles, and RC4WD Transmisson & motor bearings
Full Ceramic Bearings - $ 2330.46 , 33.1 grams
Regular Bearings - $ 94.00 , 37.1 grams
Hybrid Ceramic - $ 350.00 , 35.3 grams

Boca will swap the bearings for the sizes needed for the VP stuff if you ask when you place the order for a full kit.
