Default B-rad's Mantis XR10

Starting my XR10 build. Scored a brand new kit on feebay. I am not planning on competing anytime soon so I am going to keep it more weekend warrior as far as the build. Anxiously awaiting my BWD Mantis chassis. I will update when I get everything mocked up. Just got my RC4WD gears so I will start building the axles tonight.

What's in the box?!?!?![IMG][/IMG]

For now the parts list is:

Electronics- Novak M2 dig(came with the kit, might as well use it til it goes up in smoke), Tekin Pro 35t hand woundsx2. Spektrum 3 channel receiver and DX3R transmitter. Castle 10 amp bec @ 7 volts. Hitec 7950th. Venom 30c 1000mah 3 cell lipos x2 with deans connections.

Chassis-BWD Mantis with "Dub" cab

Wheels-Stock for now with proline chisels. Stock wheel weight system for now but I have Blue Monkey knuckle weights on another rig I can swap over

Misc-Vanquish motor plates and Traxxas olite bushings where needed.

Still waiting on my chassis, they must have been out of stock on them or busy because it has been two weeks. This is my first MOA so I am a total newb when it comes to comp style crawling. Should be a good build when I'm done!

if you are gonna run with the stock gears and not do the two bolt mod I would not have used the wheelweights,,
it is mutch harder for the driveshafts ang gearshafts to make the very heavy wheel and tire go around,,,
I would have bought the titanium gearshafts and the rc4wd gears, this is gonna work well with the vanquish motorplates with bigger bearings,,
and the next thing I would have changed is the stock rear driveshaft with some creeperbob titanium ones..

Cool thanks for the tips. Forgot to mention that I have a pair of RC4WD gears ready to go. I plan on doing the bolt mod once I get everything mocked up. You guys been doing the mod to the front axle as well? Thanks for the feedback guys.

Keep us posted. Good to see another XR build. What are you gonna do for links, do they come with the chassis?

The chassis comes with links. Pretty sweet deal imo. $100 for the chassis and $40 for the cab. Speaking of the devil...This came in the mail today so I should have everything I need:

Finally got some build time on the Mantis. Front axle is built, just have to install steering linkage. I will build the rear axle tonight. I did a dry run with the electronics. Everything works fine and I think I have a good starting point for settings. Dialing my two Wraiths has taken most of my time. Sorry for the crappy pic, it was like 3 am lol.

Updates:

Axles are built and we are rolling! The electronics are a bit of a mess but I will get them sorted. Just test fitting my cable lengths for the cleanest install possible with the Novak ESC. Next need to solder bullet connectors.

And we are operational, just need to cut out and paint body panels:

Finished the body panels. I need to space the lower links out a few mm and 2 bolt mod the rear axle. Other than that I am pretty much done.

I have been saving some foam tubing from bike builds to use for cable routing. Seems to be working really nicely:

I decided to install my RC4WD hubs I had laying around. I have another Blue Monkey knuckle kit on order so I don't have to pull one off a Wraith. They increased my steering throw significantly and should allow a healthy amount of knuckle weights.

And a cool maiden voyage action pic:

The millpond in Banner Elk is pretty good for being close to my house. Hebron Rock colony is good, Halloway mtn is good, Blowing rock boulders. Lots of stuff off the Parkway and 221.

I would recomend a spacer where you have the shocks mounted..
I dont know about delrin but carbonfiber is pretty fragile if you dont use a spacer between the shock mounts..
