| sell me on an ESC
My new-to-me XR's Losi ESC took a crap today. What next? I'm new to both Crawlers and Electrics. I'm dirt poor so price is a big factor but I've felt the pain of going too cheap, often. Dual ESC? Single? M2 has bad reviews, really that bad? I eventually want dig. But more than anything, I want to be up and running ASAP. I'm staying brushed and 2S batteries. I wont be running high end radios anytime soon so I don't need crazy settings. |

As much as I've bagged the M2 it still does the job. Would I buy it again? No. Would I recommend it? Well that depends. What kind of budget are we talking? The M2 is actually rather pricey for what it is and what it does. Maybe someone could chime in who is familiar with your radio/ setting up with 3pos switch? Micro sidewinders work out rather cheap but I'm not sure if you could run them.... Last edited by Abrown83; 02-15-2013 at 08:18 PM. |

At about 50 bucks a pop new, two of these is cheaper than most other options. It's also the smallest lightest package you'll come across for esc with dig. Castle Creations Sidewinder Micro 1/18th Scale Sport Brushless ESC [CSE010-0050-00] | RC Cars & Trucks - A Main Hobbies They need to be switched to brushed mode before you use them, more than likely your local hobby shop will be able to do it for you. Especially if you have them order these suckers for you. Edit - flysky radios are cheap and do everything. Programming is only as hard as reading a few posts. If you ever get lost a simple post asking for help/where info is located will push you through in the right direction. Last edited by opek; 02-15-2013 at 08:54 PM. |

If you don't have a radio capable of mixing the throttle channel and you want to stay on the cheaper side, no point in doing a dual esc setup right now. You would get into more money to get what is needed just to run it. A single esc like an FXR with a Punk Dig will work for what you want, and not cost you a whole lot. They come up in the classifieds quite often. I picked up two last week for the price of a new one. The FXR that is. Punk Digs can be found as well. I ran that combo for some time and it worked great. Others will chime in with their thoughts as well, so consider every option. Go with what you can afford for right now.

Get one FXR to get you running. Then buy another one or a punk dig when you want to dig and mix. Two FXR's with the cases and posts removed are smaller than any other 2 esc. The castle micro sidewinders are cheap but I have heard of plenty to burn up and had one burn up myself. Damn thing didnt even make it thru one comp. Never had one issue with a Tekin FXR. |

I haven't had one cc esc burn up on me, try 8.. yep, 8!.. a couple Bec's(but there cheap).. not all wired by me an have failed without reason.. now, with that said, I can't complain or will make no negative comments with there customer service, or reps.. they are awesome! Moving on, out of 10 fx-r which I'm running 8 of still.. one was fried when I got it in a trade an one I screwed up taking the posts off.. Just my .02 an experience.. I ran a fx-r an a punk dig in my xr to start with as well.. worked good enough to win a comp... ;) |

There's also an M2. They have a Dig pre-installed? I'm using a Kyosho radio that has a 3 position 3rd channel switch |

Eww, M2 esc's suck balls. If your running 45t and up dual Tekin BoneR's, 40t and down dual Tekin FXR's. they are small and the don't give a shit. Just great esc's. even if your just running one and a dig switch a FXR will be great.

Keep in mind as well. If you get an M2, Sidewinder, Goat.....while they may work for now, if you decide in the future to run a dual setup, you'll be buying two more ESC's. If you run......say an FXR with Punk Dig now, you'll only have to purchase one more ESC in the future to run a dual setup. IMO if you are only going to run a single ESC for right now, forget the Goat and the Sidewinder and the "dreaded" M2 and get yourself an FXR. There's one for sale fairly cheap right now in the Classifieds.

OK. I'm sold on an FXR. I've done some searching and I cant find a good wiring diagram for a single esc to 2 motors. Any leads? The handiwork on my XR now is less than sweet. |
