Del Monte's Secret Agent build Here we go again  I've learned a lot about the XR10 in the last year of competing around the country. My CDW XR10 has proven to be an extremely capable rig, but I believe that there is always room for improvement. After seeing the Secret Agent in action and following the several impressive builds here on RCC, I knew that I wanted to build one for myself. This truck will most likely see quite a few different parts and setups, but here are some the parts that I will be starting with Chassis Y-Town Crawlers Secret Agent Motors Holmes Hobbies 13t Crawlmaster Pro Shocks Axial 61-90mm Aluminum shocks ESC's Castle Creations Sidewinder Micros Steering Futaba BLS 157HV Vanquish Products Steering Knuckles Castle Creations CC BEC Tx/Rx Futaba 4pks Futaba 614FF Since my build time is pretty limited these days, this will be much more of a "build" thread than a "built" thread. I will try to show some of what I've learned over the last year in building a dependable, lightweight rig. This build will feature some parts that may sacrifice strength for weight. I won't post anything here that I haven't fully tested, however if you view your rig as more of a sledgehammer than a scalpel, your results may vary  |
Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build I'm looking forward to watching the bar get raised again. Good luck with your new build Jake. |
Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build First up is the front gearbox http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/6665/dscf1747c.jpg Each gearshaft is drilled out with a 3/32" cobalt drill. 1g savings for each I also drilled out each idler gear with a 1/8" carbide drill http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/3985/dscf1804q.jpg 2g savings each gear I used the same 1/8" drill to open up the holes in the Final Gear(spool) for another 4g of savings. Total savings from the front gearbox = 12g I also drilled out the housing with a 5/32" drill and pressed in some 3mm inserts from Mcmaster-carr. http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/8960/dscf1741j.jpg |
Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build OH ya I"m ready! |
Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build Jeeze man, this is already starting to look good. I will be watching:shock: |
Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build Looking forward to this build! Is there a goal weight in mind? |
Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build Whelp brutha...this oughta be good. Take the top 2 skinny builders & drivers, their chassis designs, knowledge & skill...roll it all up in one rig & yer gonna have some SICK results. The majority of the West Coast RCC Familia is goin skinny so it'll be killer to see how rigs compare over the summer build season. J.D. |

Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build Just another reason for me to get an Agent. Looks good so far. |
Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build I've been looking forward to this build! Great start so far man"thumbsup" |
Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build Sweet! Look forward to seeing in action at Nationals. Possibly another $1K challenge is in order:twisted: |
Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build Going to be a sweet build!!! So will it be under 3 pounds :) |
Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build holy crap I kinda thought you were kidding about the agent build lol |
Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build Subscribed, always great to see your build threads. |
Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build Glad to see this happening. Nice to see ya again at ECC"thumbsup" Later, Farmer |

Always interested to see what you come up with for the build. Those inserts from mcmaster carr, what are they called exactly, I have seen them before just cant remember, your first build or mark reels build possibly? |
Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build Could you build two of them at the same time? ;-) Can't wait to see it. When will it be alive? Club Picnic June 2nd? |
Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build So I was just looking at a spool. What brand do you use? Where are the 4 holes you drilled out to 1/8th? Or did you drill 4 holes that were not originally there? 4 grams is pretty substantial for one gear "thumbsup" Drilling out the shafts.... interesting. 8) |
Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build Looking forward to this one!!!!!"thumbsup""thumbsup" |
Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build Thanks for the details this is gonna be a great build |
Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build [AxQUOTE=Harvo;3721260]So I was just looking at a spool. What brand do you use? Where are the 4 holes you drilled out to 1/8th? I somehow didn't get a picture of it, so I will make sure I get one when I drill the rear gears out. I'm actually going to try to peel a few more grams off of the rear gearset |
Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build great thread going jake i will be watching it as well as how awesome this thing works at our next event |
Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build nice start Jake"thumbsup" more pics please:mrgreen: |
Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build Looks like it's time for me to re-build some axles when I get home! Fresh starts are always exciting. Thanks for attempting to make this an actual build thread showing how to achieve a capable; light weight & reliable rig. |
Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build Here's a drilled out final gear compared to a stock Axial machined final gear. This one only ended up about 3g lighter, so maybe the first one still had some grease hanging on the teeth when I weighted it. Either way, this one has a date with a mill tomorrow to shed a little more weight. http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/2010/dscf1809w.jpg |
Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build I always love to see your ideas and how they are applied. This promises to be an awesome build. Quote:

Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build i got a new name lets call it ''sub zero''"thumbsup" |
Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build Quote:
But tHen Jake would have to get it to weigh in the negative :flipoff::mrgreen: |
Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build Finished up my rear spool http://img848.imageshack.us/img848/4306/dscf1818f.jpg This was good for almost another 4g. Now that the rear axle is done, I can start on links and shocks  |
Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build So were are some pics of the chassis? |
Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build Quote:
I didn't like the way my first link setup was turning out, so I'm back in the garage working on version 2. |
Looking at your rear spool I'm gonna say it now. Your an evil man! That things sick. Sent from my HERO200 using Tapatalk 2 |

Re: Del Monte's Secret Agent build After seeing this build thread it is easy to understand why your win list is so long. Keep up the great work and see you back in Alabama this September. |
