Millsous Yeti Build I had been waiting for the kit for months, but when it was announced it was delayed again... I decided to pop on the RTR. After deciding to get out of the 2wd buggy scene and selling my RC10B5M and everything that went with it, I had quite the amount of funds to work with. Below is my purchase list. Some of this I already have from the buggy, electronics and such, and some has already arrived. Looking forward to the build/rebuild of the RTR and will be documenting the process along the way. Re: Millsous Yeti Build Couple of pics of some of the parts that arrived today http://i.imgur.com/Lb4YA5B.jpg New servo, sheer steering rack, steering knuckles and front axles http://i.imgur.com/nTN4bTC.jpg Also received a new lipo from SPC Racing and a few packs of deans ultra plugs |
Re: Millsous Yeti Build The wheels, tires and foams also arrived today from Crawler Innovations and Vanquish. I took some shots of the build process and have a few ideas around the installation of the beadlock wheels and tires. http://i.imgur.com/mBaxfjD.jpg Working on getting all of the screws installed... my hand is a bit sore. http://i.imgur.com/OG53QBW.jpg Deuces Wild and Pit Bull Rock Beasts 2 When doing my research on the beadlocks for this build, I noticed a good number of people complaining about mounting the vanquish wheels to 2.2 tires and foams. I especially noticed complaints around the Vanquish OMF wheels. Overall, mine went on without any issues. I will share what I felt to be an easy way to get them on. When screwing the beadlock ring on, I left a good portion of the screws (24) unscrewed. I would say I left around 1/2 the screw unscrewed. I found that this allowed the inner ring more clearance and the ability to reach the back ring much easier. Once the 4 screws on the back were tightened, I then finished tightening the beadlock ring screws. http://i.imgur.com/8N3cKhb.jpg Here's a shot showing the full 24 screws half way tightened. http://i.imgur.com/uCdjqnl.jpg This is before I finished tightening the 4 screws on the rear and on the beadlock. You can see the clearance between the rings... I barely had to squeeze the rings together to get the rear screws to bite. http://i.imgur.com/hotUKJS.jpg All finished. |
Re: Millsous Yeti Build Keep the pics coming. I am very interested in the Yeti. |
Re: Millsous Yeti Build Nice wheels! As for the trailing arm on the Yeti, I prefer the http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/image.../paperclip.gif Yeti 7075 trailing arms by UCfab sold here. Harder matirial, replaceble rod end, where as the VP ones will eventually wear out and have some slop in the ball caveties. I got a set of http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/image.../paperclip.gif Yeti 7075 trailing arms by UCfab for my wrexo and there are awsome! I recommand them! Got the hard anodized one and I'm very please! Forth taking a look! Plus the rod end are traxxas, easily available and cheap! Waiting for more pics of your built! |
Re: Millsous Yeti Build Hey how much total did the rim setup set you back? And do you have pics with them mounted to the truck? Sent from the clouds |

Re: Millsous Yeti Build With the most important part showing up today, I was able to get down to business. http://i.imgur.com/LJ8WByI.jpg Might as well get this shot before I rip into it. http://i.imgur.com/RjX0h08.jpg And here we go... http://i.imgur.com/3uUGVzv.jpg First victim is the rear axle... out with the old, in with the new. A Vanquish Currie Wraith axle. |
Re: Millsous Yeti Build Oh yeah, got some electronic goodies as well as the STRC rear link mounts and a Robinson Racing hardened steel spur. http://i.imgur.com/TBapoft.jpg |
Re: Millsous Yeti Build Keep it coming. I will likely be joining the Yeti ranks very soon! |
Re: Millsous Yeti Build I got a yeti for christmas.. i upgraded all the links to aluminum. I'm glad this thread is here and bookmarked. So I know what will work and what wont. When I go to upgrade some more. I can't wait to see more. |
Re: Millsous Yeti Build Had a somewhat productive day working on the Yeti. I didn't get a chance to take any pictures, but you're not missing much. Installed the axle in the rear as well as the vanquish trailing arms. I also took the transmission apart and installed the hardened Robinson Racing gears as well as the Robinson Racing spur. The power plant, my Tekin Pro4 HD 3500kv, was also installed. I'll snap a few pics tomorrow. Still waiting on 2 more packages, so I'm a bit stalled until they arrive. Servo Horn, RPM Arms and STRC caster blocks from TCS Crawlers (which seems to be lost in the mail... was suppose to arrive today but no updates since the 5th.) Front steering links and rear links from Blue Monkey, looking like Friday on this package. |

Why did you decide on the 3500kv instead of the 3000kv? I am looking to get the most speed out of the Yeti, and want to chose the motor that will allow that. I am thinking about the Gen3 slipper with 64t and a 18t pinion to get some more top speed. Does that make sense? |
Re: Millsous Yeti Build Quote:
Honestly, I ordered it and instantly regretted it, wanting the 3000k. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

What benefits will I see from 3500 to 3000 |
Re: Millsous Yeti Build Some updates with pictures finally! http://i.imgur.com/BGeT6kT.jpg Installed the currie axle, STRC 4 link mount and trailing arms. This thing looks sharp! http://i.imgur.com/Et8iJus.jpg New Blue Monkey Turnbuckles/Rear links... these things are beefy! http://i.imgur.com/dvyhXvr.jpg Moved on to the front... Installed the new RPM arms, BM Links, axial universals, Vanquish Hexes, STRC Caster Block and Hot Racing Knuckle. Overall, impressed with both the STRC and Hot Racing quality. I did have to shave a bit of the knuckle to help the bearing fit on the inside. I quickly hit it with the Dremel and it slid in fine. Obviously, I would have rather the bearing just fit but I wont complain, it looks great! http://i.imgur.com/8ikP4jl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/PhMZCk1.jpg Went ahead and installed both the rear links and the MIP spline. I ended up using the kits linked below. Overall, they look good so far. Will have to see how they handle once they have some torque on them. MIP Spline C-CVD Bone (1) [MIP9169] MIP C-Drive Spline [MIP08103] http://i.imgur.com/OhUWt9C.jpg Here's the front knuckles with wheels attached. http://i.imgur.com/zyTDMYc.jpg Here's a shot of the new Robinson Racing spur gear installed. I also installed the internal Robinson racing gears while I was at it. In this shot, you can also see the Vanquish steering rack and sheer steering rack. I also used a bearing in the servo saver... will probably end up getting the duuuude bushing when all is said and done. http://i.imgur.com/q7Mi7Aw.jpg As she sits currently. I'm loving the all black, it still has a stock look for the most part. |
Re: Millsous Yeti Build I've got my eye on the RPP spur kit. For the internal trans gears you've used, can you post up the part numbers please? I'm trying to make sure i can find the right ones here in the UK. |

Re: Millsous Yeti Build Currently waiting on a few parts. The servo horn that was sent was a 25t (I need a 24t....). I also ordered a full set of Advanced Metal Fab aluminum panels with an aluminum wheel mount... these things look sick. I have a werty made front bumper and a 1" vanquish light on their way as well. Here's a link to the panels. They currently are selling on ebay but you can find the full set in their ebay store. Advanced Metal Fab Side Panels |

Re: Millsous Yeti Build Quote:
The wire mesh was just some 1/10 scale alum mesh/grille I managed to find on eBay dirt cheap. It adds a really nice finish to the bonnet, although it's really get knock about a bit now. The lights are Vanquish Q-Series: Rigid Industries Q-Series LED Lights Black - Vanquish Products They're incredibly bright as you might have seen from some of my pics. I have a build thread I'm running on a UK forum. I didn't run one on here as back in September the really skilled guys had all their threads running and had everything covered. If you're interested, check it out. I have bits on waterproofing my Tekin gear and of course the Vanquish Q-Series installation and wiring. This is the latest with the lights and wiring, as I had to re-do it all. Zombi's Axial Yeti - Page 9 - Rock Crawlers - MSUK RC Forum - Page 9 Hope it's useful to someone out there! |
Re: Millsous Yeti Build Some new parts came in today and with them, a new look. First up, some proline shocks for the front. http://i.imgur.com/USEmEZl.jpg?2 Werty Made Bumper and Vanquish 1" light http://i.imgur.com/QArEPI8.jpg?2 STRC parts to beef up the front. http://i.imgur.com/YDsu7Z9.jpg?1 And some AVID bearings. http://i.imgur.com/BxF3Lch.jpg?1 Shocks and STRC parts installed. All parts went on like a breeze and the fit and finish of the STRC parts is top notch. The shock, I used the Proline Shock upgrade kit and Proline Purple Shocks. http://i.imgur.com/TDnyGBy.jpg?1 Werty bumper and lights installed. http://i.imgur.com/Oz71UmG.jpg?1 |
Re: Millsous Yeti Build Now for the new look! Advanced Metal Fab panels. Found these bad boys on eBay sold by AMF. The finish on these are great, and that hood! Ooooh wee. The side panels weren't designed to fit on the inside but they worked out pretty well. http://i.imgur.com/XC7dMCq.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/vaFdN6R.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/822frGy.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/cv7BevG.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/ytiT80L.jpg?1 Here's a link to their ebay page if anyone is interested. One thing about the light... When I was screwing on the decor bolts, I noticed the holes weren't quite right. The screws didn't want to fit and two bolts snapped. I was barely putting force on these. Not sure how I can go about getting these out. Any ideas? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Re: Millsous Yeti Build Awesome build man, it looks so good. Pics look amazing too, which dslr you using? |

Last photos were my iPhone. The first photos are a Canon 6D with a Sigma 50 prime. The wife decided to borrow the canon for work and left it. Will probably take some better shots of the body panels. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Re: Millsous Yeti Build Was looking at those same panels. I will definately be buying those next. I thought bout spending the extra coin and getting the carbon fiber panel kit. |
Re: Millsous Yeti Build Not sure how you're going to retrieve the remnants of those screws, they're too small to use a dremel on :s I'd send an email to VP customer service and ask them for some advice on what to do, either to fix it or have the unit replaced; when i've dealt with them in the past they've been superb. |
Re: Millsous Yeti Build Finished the rear panel this morning. I painted the panel with some aluminum primer and flat black rustolium. I left the tire mount raw for a bit of contrast. http://i.imgur.com/3WVEply.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/4Mu981M.jpg?1 I'm going to use a stock wheel for the tire rack, so a bit of doctoring is in order to give the bolt enough clearance to screw it down. I'll chop off the plastic hub tonight and it should fit fine. |

Re: Millsous Yeti Build Fingers crossed for you, they really came through for me twice. I have one of those light bars too and it was all good, so I'm sure it's just a defective unit. Happens to the best of companies now and then. |
Re: Millsous Yeti Build http://i.imgur.com/J1YlWk3.jpg?1 Wheel mounted on the back. Thinking I will need to get a stiffer shock/oil in the rear. A good bit more sag with the panels and wheel. |
Re: Millsous Yeti Build Quote:
How are you getting the rear body clips attached each time you put the body on? I was thinking of getting some plastic and drilling a hole through it to create another clip system for the rear deck lid as opposed to the screws |

Re: Millsous Yeti Build I also have some aluminum paneling on my trucks. I know you problably haven't driven it yet, but I'm interested to see how your paint holds up. It's always tough painting things on these because they get beat to death, then you have to clean it.. No matter what I do I still end up getting a couple scuffs. |

Re: Millsous Yeti Build Took the yeti out for it's maiden drive today at a local park that's popular with the crawler folks in Charlotte. Finally got the camera back from the wife so I took it along for some quality shooting. Overall, I think it did well, only glaring problem I see is it flips way too easily. Might have to get some new hubs to increase the width. I also need to get the electronics water-proofed so I can get a little sloshy. http://i.imgur.com/RyiYQZZ.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ci7w2pC.jpg http://i.imgur.com/1bKeCFz.jpg http://i.imgur.com/PGZcrtN.jpg http://i.imgur.com/zmPhCaW.jpg http://i.imgur.com/91mR2gk.jpg |
