Default Yeti problem....

I've been upgrading the yeti and recently replaced the motor mount and spur gear with an STRC mount and Axial 60 teeth metal gear. I noticed that after I updated the motor mount...the truck seems to stutter quite a bit before I try to accelerate to full power. Its just not very smooth anymore...feels like I have to go full throttle to get the truck to move. It also doesn't seem to be getting full power and looks like I have less torque than before. I thought I didn't adjust the slipper correctly but, I don't think that is the case now. I've tried everything that make sense to me but not getting it run like before.

Any suggestions?

It sounds like maybe your pinion/spur gear mesh is too tight. have you checked that?

I'm assuming you're talking about the RTR with the Vanguard/Castle electronics?

First off, check your gear mesh and that little plastic bushing that the spur rides on. I switched mine out to an actual bearing

Next, you are running a sensorless set up, which is prone to cogging. Now with the added weight of the steel spur, that sound/noise and cogging is amplified causing a lack of power on startup.

His Axial 60 teeth metal gear sould have came with a bearing. soulds like gear mesh is alittle to tight.

I've adjusted the gear mesh to be looser and tighter. Same results every time ...big time cogging. If I run it with no load ( on a stand, lifted), this seems fine. Everything had been working fine prior to me switching out the motor mount. I've taken everything off again to check and everything looks good.

Could the stock motor have gone bad?

I would switch back to the plastic motor mount, if its runs bad still, ya maybe the motor, that is just my opinion

Check all the connections of the gold plugs on the motor, you might have to remove the heat shrink to inspect them.

@Brandon -- I stripped back the connectors and the connections look solid.

I'm gonna try my MMP and see if that helps.

My STRC motor mount was ever so slightly thicker than the plastic motor mount (I'm not the only one who has had this issue, and I've heard the Axial aluminum mount is no different). I had to grind down the "fins" on the slipper clutch plate so that it cleared the spur gear cover back plate. If that's binding it could be causing you issues. I wouldn't think it'd be that bad. You'll know of its been binding, there will be markings. As an alternative you might be able to grind the plastic on the rear Spur gear cover plate (the one that bolts to the motor mount, installed before the spur gear) to avoid the binding as well.

maybe try pulling the motor and seeing if the drivetrain spins freely? or possibly pull the tranny and checking it and the diffs separately. just thinking maybe there is a bad bearing somewhere that is binding up?

When I run it off the ground, It looks to accelerate fine..no cogging. I've looked at the tranny and when I have the motor pinion off, the tranny rolls fine. Doesn't seem to have the any issues. Right now, I feel like it's the motor or esc. Just sucks......

I found the problem! It looks like the castle BEC I installed caused all my issues. For some reason, it interfered with the esc. Once I removed it, all the power came back like before. Not sure why. I'm pretty sure that I wired it all up correctly.

Any run into this before?

Because you didn't remove the red wire going to your received perhaps? That may do you in.

I did take the red wire off the esc wire...the middle pin according to the Castle instructions.

I appreciate all the input guys.
