Default Yeti with 400kv and 3s?

Hi All,
This is my first build in many years and Im learning alot about modern motor / esc and battery systems.
When I bought my kit I also bought a Hobbywing SC8 esc and 4000kv 4 pole sensorless motor and a 5000ma 3s lipo. I assumed the 4000kv motor was a bit high in the kv department but it was all they had so I went with it.
So my question is, will this system work ok in a yeti for general bashing or should I swap something while I have the chance (ie before I use it I can do a swap at the hobby shop)
I am happy to gear down the pinion, put heatsinks / fans on the motor and upgrade drive train parts as required as long as this set up does not complicate things too much.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I ran that same esc in my yeti, but the 3400kv 3656 ezrun motor on 3s. The first time I ran my yeti, I literally ran 3- 5000mah 40c batteries one after another for about 1hr 20 mins or so, of some serious bashing. I temped my motor it was around 165 degrees. These motors have a ton of torque and great top end speed, and can handle a ton of abuse! I was using a 16t pinion, with stock spur gear.

In all honesty I can't say for sure your not going to have heat issues with that 4000kv motor, but if you run a heat sink with a fan, and gear down to 12 or 13t pinion, you should be fine. That thing will absolutely fly on 3s!

That's my 2 cents, hope it helps!

I'm running the 4000kv 3656SD in my Yeti on 3s...runs great and rips. I would get a motor fan though.

Thanks for the replies guys, sounds positive.
I'll be sure to get some decent fans for the motor.
I assume these can plug straight into the reciever with this set up?

Im going to run my yeti on 4S with a 3000kv motor. So we should be right around the same rpms. I'll report back once I get the kit completed.

My build is complete and I've ran a few packs through it.
It's a beast that's for sure! Top end speed is prob more than this style of truck realisticly needs so I'm going to drop the stock gearing to a 14t pinion.
Motor temps are ok for now (125f max) but it's cold here (50f) and I haven't pushed it hard for extended periods yet so I will be installing 2 fans and a heat sink ASAP to keep temps in check
ESC barely gets hot at all.
So far so good"thumb-sup
