Default 1/10th yeti

Hello everyone new to the forum but not RC. Me and a buddy have a yeti kit on the way and we are pulling our hair out on a motor esc combo. We have ran on road cars and SCT but this is a first for a yeti. I understand you will not get blistering speeds out of this thing. We are looking for some mid level speed and just everyday bashing around. will not want to do any crawling with it. we have looked at a couple of options and wonder if we are offbase with this.

we looked at the castle SCT package with esc and a 3800KV motor and seems if we goto 3s later on we could be in trouble with heating issues, and is the castle sct package even worth the trouble.

the next one is a hobbywing package and i think the motor is a good fit between the stock motor and the castle SCT. Hobbywing Xerun SCT Pro Sensored Brushless ESC/Motor Combo (3400kV)
w/Program Box. I run hobbywing ESCs in my goblin helicopters and they work well.

the next one is what the guys at the hobbyshop recommend is just putting the castle 1/8th scale package in there. I questioned really running that on 3s and if the yeti kit will hold up to that type of motor. I have not crossed that out as if it is a feasible option for just everyday bashing with a few speed runs then i will certainly entertain it. I know the battery tray has to get trimed a bit so no big deal. What are your thoughts on a good setup to achieve my type of use. i would like to find a castle or hobbywing setup with a combo. thanks for any help

mike

Mamba X, Tekin Pro4HD 3500kV. 3S all day long with a 2 speed gear box and 17/56 Pinion /spur will give mid 30's mph.

hi welcome.i started with the sct combo (5mm version). But switched the esc to a monster x before i went 3s.
i geared mine 64/19 and i'm very happy on the speed. and for bashing sensorless is not relevant and you will go 3s for this. in my eyes a yeti needs min. 3s.
if i have to decide now i have 2 favorites the neu sensored version from cc with 3800kv and 5mm or hh puller pro xl 3500kv esc i would stay with the monster x. but that's just my personal opinion, many options out there.

I've been running my yeti on the Castle SCT combo on 3s exclusively, no problems yet and I'm 10+ packs in. I mostly bash, not much if any crawling yet. I also run a Castle BEC. Hope this helps.

I ran a 3800kv sw3 combo when I first got my kit. In cold temps (below freezing) it would run fine but any sort of warm weather and it would thermal like crazy on 3s. I am running a Hobbywing SC8 esc now with the 3800kv and it's working FANTASTIC! It's not the nicest setup but it works just fine and it goes like snot (mid 30mph range to low low 40). I run my Yeti really hard, everything from thick mud, hill climbs, towing kids on a trailer, racing at the track, and skatepark bashing.

My SCT has yet to thermal and it's been 90+ recently when I ran it. However, I did gear the motor down to a 14th pinion. All the other gears are stock.

X2 ^^ I'm running the mm2 and castle 2650kv combo, good starting point IMO, will look at a pro4 hd once funds allow.
