Wd40 on the stock rear drive shaft, Will it hurt anything? There's like a squell/squeak sound when I drive my yeti and I thought about spraying wd40 on the rear stock drive shaft to see if that's where its coming from but want to make sure it won't hurt anything by doing it. |

Re: Wd40 on the stock rear drive shaft, Will it hurt anything? WD40 isn't a lubricant and shouldn't be used as one. It will actually take good oil away from moving parts. Use spray silicone or a light oil for bearings and joints.. |
Re: Wd40 on the stock rear drive shaft, Will it hurt anything? I use teflon spray for moving parts before driving and wd40 After wet runs. sent by magic_yeti :) |

Re: Wd40 on the stock rear drive shaft, Will it hurt anything? As a general rule in life, I don't use WD40 on ANYTHING. It's a degreaser that leaves a residue that I find hard to get rid of. As for light lubricants (especially in small bearings) I will use either Tri-Flow or in the case of high performance sealed bearings (metal or ceramic) I will use a little bit of Finish Line's Flouro Grease Finish Line - Bicycle Lubricants and Care Products - Extreme Fluoro Grease I'll actually pull the bearings and pop the seals then put just a small amount on the bearing cages. For small squeaks, Tri-flow should be a good enough fix until it starts squeaking again. |
Re: Wd40 on the stock rear drive shaft, Will it hurt anything? I user the WD40 Water Resistant Silicone Lubricant in all my rigs, all driveline (metal/rubber/plastic). Works great specially in the wet season here in PNW. Excellent to remove the noise of the moving parts. Silicone Lubricant & Silicone Grease - WD-40 Specialist The "normal" WD40 isn't a great idea as other comments said above. |
Re: Wd40 on the stock rear drive shaft, Will it hurt anything? If you still have the stock dog bones in the front, those might be what you are hearing. They squeak a TON especially in dry weather. Put some dry lube (dry lube for bike chains works really well), or a wet lube and a driveshaft boot over them. |
