I'm glad this format war is finally coming to an end.

I'm glad I didn't give a frack from the start... VHS was bad... on it's own... no need to bash against any other format to find the flaws. Laserdisc... nearly the same... pict quality mediocre, bulky... had to be reversed, or disk to be switched. In europe it was only interesting because of the import movies not available in VHS. DVD... picture is good, sound is good, multi track audio, subtitle, freeze frame, multi angle for porno movies. Really no reason to upgrade from this. Especially since most of the buyers are watching "waterboy" or any other bargain bin movie. HDdvd/blueray... it's all about the bragging right. Like the THX over Ultra hyper ultimate Dolby of doom 5. Sure you can read me the spec sheet and tell me that bigger numbers (720p/i 1024p/i and so on) are better. But I just don't need better. Especially I don't need HD more real than life pictures of porn movies. My stomach will not take it happily. I don't need to see every drop of sweat in Die Hard 4.0. I don't need to see every details of the asphalt in Fast and Furious. I don't need a marketting dep to tell me what I should be looking for in a movie (minute pointless details) because they want to sell me something while I should be looking at the big picture and enjoy it. Switching from mono-TV hp to my HiFi Stereo was an incredibly HUGE enhancement. Then I upgraded to 5.1... and the "woah" factor was just not there. Not even enought to justify pulling wires properly everywhere (the test setup was quite ugly for the eyes) So I just put it in a closet and plugged back the stereo. What's important... it's the movies. Not the media. Once the media became carefree to use like it did with the DVD, it's time to stop focusing on pointless technobabble. |
