Alright, I and my father have been looking into getting some pistols, today I narrowed my choices down to a Taurus 24/7 9MM 4" or a Spring Field 9mm XD 4" The Taurus feels kind of weird in my hand, and the XD really feels the best. I also like the added safety features on the XD. Anyone owned a XD? My dad decided on a 4" XD .45, I think. |

I wouldnt suggest any Taurus pistol with a polymer frame. I've seen alot of problems with them. Twice ive seen the guide rod and spring pop through the front of the frame and get stuck, guns had to be sent in to Taurus. I like there metal frames like the PT92 and 1911, just none of the Millenium or 24/7's. I own a few XD's, awesome guns! I have 5000 rounds through one with no major hicups.

If at all possible, don't buy any firearm until you've had a chance to shoot it.

| Okay, so technically its my dads pistol I wish I was 21, I'd be getting a CC, to bad by the time I'm 21 that privilege in America will probably be taken away. Thanks for the input guys, I really can't find any negative comments on the XD, the guy that was showing us the gun had just bought a XD a few weeks ago and said he really liked it. You only have to be 18 to purchase from a private seller. Here in Arizona your dad could also gift you the pistol and aslong as you are 18 you can legally carry and posses it. |

| You will hear mixed reviews about the Sigma line from S&W. It was basically designed to be a Glock copy at a fraction of the cost, but its nowhere near Glock quality or reliability. From my personal experience it has a horrible trigger pull and the material in the frame is not as durable as other polymer based guns. I've heard horror stories about things going wrong with them, but that was all hearsay. I would suggest shooting one before you buy it.

I recently did a little shopping in this area... I tried ALL the poly frame pistols I could get my hands on and I would HIGHLY recommend the S&W M&P .45!! I like the feel the best, it came with night sights, (usually a $90 upgrade) and it has an excellent trigger! Last weekend I was able to put the lead to the paper and with every type of ammo I put through it 100 percent reliable and very respectable groups at ranges out to 30 yards. All for about $625.00. Oh and I went to the Gun shop set on the XD! |

Also one other thing I had forgotten to mention is that I'm left handed, and I could easily reach everything on the XD.
