Moved this to Chit Chat. My guess is they used the macro setting on the camera and the focal point is the tire, so the rest of it is blurred out. I don't know how to unblur stuff, but I can do the opposite. Tilt-Shift I think it's called... |

It is just the Depth of Field...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depth_of_field As EeePee said, it is just focused on the tire. It's a nice shot of a Panther Cougar. |

most likely taken with a decent (expensive) camera they always have a very shallow focus depth.

If you try to sharpen the rear portion of the image it will end up pixelating the entire image and inevitably degrade the quality of the image. Maybe someone with amazing Photoshop/Photo-Editing techniques will be able to make it look decent, but the more you try to sharpen it after the image has been taken, the more pixelated the image will become. Especially after a download and upload of a .JPEG file.

This picture is an example of: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bokeh It's actually a good thing, when used right, as it makes the background less distracting, while helping the viewer's eye to focus on the sharper part of the image. It's usually used to highlight one part of an image. It can also be used to get rid of a distracting backround. |

The OP picture isn't bokeh, that's just out of focus.. I agree the OP picture would look a lot better with bokeh, though.

Not a bad pic. it looks like you went into the macro side of the lense when you were taking it. With a 12mp camera like you olympus fe-300, there is no need to get so close, you can save your depth of field by backing away a little bit (about 5ft or so) and take the picture, then crop it on your computer to get the size you want without losing any contrast.

That's about the best I could get it...fixed the seat also. I do agree the picture was meant to be taken like that, focus in the wheel in front, everything else blurred... |

It's just the depth of field like others have said. Try using a higher F stop if your camera will allow adjustments. This adjusts the aperture of the lens opening. If you take a pic like that at f4 you will get that blurryness on everything that wasn't used as a focus point. If you had used a setting of say f20 or f22, much more of that pic would have come into focus. If you pick the aperture just right, you could make the rig & rock it's sitting on completely in focus while still leaving the background all fuzzy so the rig stands out as the focal point of the pic. FYI, most of the time depending on how much you adjust the aperture (and also how much light you are shooting in)...you'll also need to make some kind of adjustment to your shutter speed to counteract the aperture setting. |
