shelby 07-12-2010 09:28 PM

But right now i don't have a bike:cry:

CUSTOMHILUX 07-12-2010 09:34 PM

That sucks, if yoou ever get a new bike get the eastern boss or WTP zodiac or WTP envy:mrgreen:

xgerstandtx 07-13-2010 12:10 AM

Not a fan of Brake-less riding. In my mind and at the local parks it seems to hold riders back. Laziness from people to not want to spend time to Tune/setup brakes. Maybe I'm too Old school :rantoff:

Current rides
1998 Standard STA (get into it)
Premium OG
S&M Black bike.

Man you need to slap a brake on there, it will open up a level of control, new tricks, and confidence to pedal balls fast into something.

Oh and get rid of that Dans comp crap, that place blows."thumbsup"

Seems a cable would take care of that, might want to try one.

WTF, intentionally riding with no brakes? I haven't rode a bmx bike in years, but what chapter did I miss here?

Yeah, brakes suck! Screw being able to stop - who needs that?

The only reason i took my brakes off my bike is that 1.i never used them 2.i got sick of listening to my brake lever raddle and my brake wire would always get in my way. 3.My brakes sucked anyways,it took me forever to stop.

Sounds like 1. You were not going fast enough. 2. You need to use some zip ties or electrical tape. 3. You need to learn to tune your own brakes, if they are set up right, they work. I have run 15.00 dollar brakes and 80.00 dollar brakes and if you are willing to put the effort in you will never know the difference.

How about,I just don't like using brakes so i took them off and if i did get a new cable they would work fine but id rather not spend money on things i dont use or like.

jsowens 07-13-2010 05:53 PM

Yeah, if your brake lever itself is rattling...a zip tie or electrical tape isn't gonna fix it. However, if the CABLE is slapping against something then tying it down could be a fix. Maybe xgerstandtx is right and some of us are a bit old school, but I also don't understand brakelessness. BMX brakes are simple to setup and have them work well. I have a fairly inexpensive brake setup on my Loyalty and I can easily lock up my rear wheel if I need to.

I have kids come into the bike shop I work in all the time ranting about how they took their brakes off because the cable gets in the way of them learning tailwhips and barspins, yet most of them barely have enough bike control on a brakeless bike to pedal down the sidewalk without crashing. Have a good crash on your bike that could've been prevented by having at least a rear brake on...and I bet those brakes will go back on your bike mighty fast.

xgerstandtx, kudos to you for having rad bikes. I use to want a STA incredibly bad back around 1998 haha. Those black bikes were sick, sick frames too. All this reflecting makes me kinda want to build up my old Mutiny Undertaker...that thing was a tank.

shelby 07-13-2010 06:04 PM

You know what i did have a brake on bike,Its called my foot. That's what i used and i stopped my bike better than the brakes that were on it.

CUSTOMHILUX 07-13-2010 07:15 PM

If you just slam your foot in between the seat and tire you stop fine . i can lock up the back tire that way and it dosent hurt. plus my brakes were stock and super heavy. i dont know i jus hate brakes.

The stock brakes on my Haro could do that too, and they weren't heavy either. It's called adjusting them, it's quite a new concept but when you learn it you don't end up looking like a poser just copying the pros because they ride with no brakes "thumbsup"

yea i'm the same way. but i raced and rode fast tight trails so not only did i need brakes to pass tec. i needed them to slow my self down when the doubles end and the trees begin.990's are a pain to set up but when you get them right you can make them grab like a V brake

me back in '99

RANOVRU 07-13-2010 08:55 PM

Correct me if Im wrong but arent there some street style tricks that require brakes either front or rear?

I cant really think of any bmx style riding that you woudlnt want a brake on your bike. Im mean even in dirt you might want to adjust your speed between jumps? Whos trying to take their foot off the pedal in between jumps that are 1-2 sec apart?
