Saw them countless times (literally) among the most notable of which was at Watkins Glen, NY in 1973 along with "The Band" and "The Allman Brothers".

Had that Bumper sticker on my 89 ford Festiva I bought new. Man does that bring back the memories.

Long distance runner, what you standin' there for?
Get up, get out, get out of the door
Your playin' cold music on the barroom floor
Drowned in your laughter and dead to the core.
There's a dragon with matches that's loose on the town
Takes a whole pail of water just to cool him down.

Fire! Fire on the mountain!

Not only a Dead fan, but one of the Dead is a family friend, a guy by the name of Dan Healey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Healy_(soundman). It is really cool looking around his house, all kinds of pictures of of him and Jerry and the rest of the band, not framed, just pinned up on cork-board, kind of like how you'd have pictures of your last fishing trip...

Dan being a sound guy, I being a submarine sonarman, we've talked for hours and bored the hell out of anyone listening...

When Jerry was still alive my parents always knew when the Dead were coming to Vegas, all-access passes would show up in the mail, I just I would have been able to see Jerry in concert. No one was really surprised that he died when he did, everyone was surprised that he lasted so long...

Na... radio is WAYYYY to high in freq for our sonar systems to detect, and radio has a hell of a time going through water...

Oh, favorite Dead song: Touch of Grey

no, it really wasn't the Dead.

they are ok. sometimes they got into mind numbing jams that just made you think, "ok, can we get back to the point here??"

i worked with a big deadhead for almost 6 years, the guy had 1000's of hours of concert tapes he'd traded for.

Saw em at RFK in DC about 13 years back. Show sucked, parking lot party rocked! Glad I made it to one, but as far as the show went, I was expecting to hear songs, like album songs.

Well, ok but I wasn't referring necessarily to water. I have known other sonarmen who have taken up ham radio, another of my hobbies. Hijack over...sorry.
