He was thanking his team, mechanic and sponsors. Apperantly there was a rivalry and trash talking between some other racers they commented they don't need to talk trash, they let the boards do the talking.

well ya, its a rotary 13b from a RX7 in a car that weighs 1200 lbs. Those engines make power in a different way than a conventional rotating piston engine. A small displacement rotary will make way more power than a small displacement standard piston engine.

Impressive none the less.

Wholly $h!t !

I had an '81 RHD RX7 that was a blast to drive with less then 10% of that power.
That thing just eats tires without breaking a sweat!

Could you educate me? How exactly does this engine makes power differently than a piston engine. I though all internal combustion engines depent on the same thing, compression, fuel and spark. So the rotor moves in a different direction than the pistons, is that what you are refering to?

This should help clear things up a bit.

http://n4vy.rotaryroster.net/WhyMazda.html

They can operate much more efficiently due to the fact that the rotor never stops. Where the piston stops going up, and stops going down causing "shock" if you will. Efficiency loss is much greater in standard engine versus a rotary. Rotarys are essentially two stroke engines also.

Rotary engines have a much higher maintenance demand and are frankly not as reliable as the standard combustion engine when pushed to the limits.

Look up some videos of 4 rotor cars. And the 787B.

also because the pistons are not moving up and down they tend to run smoother than a traditional combustion engine.

I see, but is not like its generating all its power in motor alone. They run huge turbos and a shot of nitros. Thats a lot of help! Its understandable, like the guy with a small penis and a brand new red Corvette!

A 1.3L four stroke engine has 1.3L of combustion displacement every 2 crank rotations.

A 1.3L rotary engine has 1.3L of combustion displacement every 1/3 crank rotation.

tl;dr A rotary engine has 6 times more "go fast BOOMs" inside.

Find us a traditional 1.3l engine that can make that much power then.

There is none but this argument came from Warren Johnson who some years back visited Puerto Rico and took credit away from these guys running 4 cylinder and rotary engines. I actually grew up racing and working on these engines and have a decent understanding on their potential. I have been away from the scene for years and was surprised on how much they have progressed. Back in the day it was just overlap, bridge port and a few were experimenting with peripheral injection with some nitrous. I remember when the 8 cylinder guys back home used to say "They will never touch 8 seconds" and here they are running 6 secs. Of course they are not going to make those times all motor but they hurt lots of feelings by running those times. Just playing Devil's advocate to get some conversation going. With or without the help, they are just incredible considering displacement.

Edit: Just found these burried in my photobucket account, 3 of the many I've owned"

The RX-2 is way cool. Mazda needs to get their heads out of their butts and put something out like that again.

They sure need to get their head back in the game. The RX2 was awsome for sure. The r100 was awsome too. I think the RX4 and RX8 have been their ugly ducks!

Congrats little 1.3 rotary! Its now 2011 and youve finally entered the realm where traditional 8cyl piston motors have been for decades.

Better late than never...

............. figured he'd pop in here and spread the hate......

You go find a 1.3L american muscle engine and try to run 6's. Aint gonna happen.

That little sucker is probably close to 900hp. That is about 692hp per liter. Ever seen a 5.7l chevy engine pushing 3,946 hp?? Granted, Your top fuelies are gonna be pushing the 1000hp per liter range, but still... That little 1.3L is impressive as shit!

No hate here.

Underlined is where we disagree. Anything can be made fast. That being said, running a number thats been achieved long ago isnt that impressive.

And hp/ltr debate is for the short bus brotha...
