Default My Pit got attacked.....

We woke up to see my Pit looking like this The vet thought it was a snake bite at first. I argued that telling them that snakes don't come out in 20 degree weather! So the final thought is a raccoon got ahold of him. He is a tough dog to! I was pretty shocked to see him like this. He is on a ton of meds now and relaxing in the house with the girls now! It scared the crap out of us though!

sorry to hear that. I guess it's time to go racoon hunting? I never knew that you were a bully owner.

how long ago did this happen, and did they not quarantine him for a while? i would think that in a wild animal attack like this rabies would be a concern. do not take this as anything against your dog, i love pits and mean no animal hamr, but rabies in a dog is incurable, and shots are not 100%.

Do you know Kenny's neighbors? That was VERY inappropriate!

Kenny, that is SAD. I was freaked out a little when I first met the dogs, those damn coons are tough sumbitches to tear up your pooch. Hope all goes well man. Say hello to the girls.

He is up to date on all his shots and they gave him a booster for rabies.

Lacey was in tears freaking out! I got woke up to her screaming "WAKE UP!!!! Simba's face is ripped off and he is bleeding bad!" I freaked out thinking my dogs got in a fight with each other! But they all get along and always have. Both the boxers are trained personal protection and all German commands so they know better. But it wasn't them.

His swelling is going down but going down slowly. He is tough! The coon traps are going out tonight

That sucks Kenny. Hope he gets better soon. Our dogs are a big part of family and it's hard to see them get hurt.

I agree! They are my kids to! It's crazy how expensive it is to get our pets medical treatment though! But that is part of having pets

Yup - crazy insane prices... but there are a few companies out there that offer medical insurance for pets.

Thats cool! Never knew that. This is the first time something really bad has happened really. My Pit was a rescue. He was left for dead in a back yard chained up for 2 weeks with no food, drinking water out of a puddle He was a little over 40lbs then and eat up with ticks and fleas. He has had a hard life. But he is such a good, loving boy! He is best friends with my 2 year old daughter

Yup. When we got our latest dog, Duke, we rescued him from the ASPCA in Phoenix. They just got him in the day before. He was abandoned and skinny as hell. When we registered him before leaving they gave us the opportunity to sign up for a short term plan because of him being malnourished. I can't remember the cost, but it was pretty reasonable, and it did take care of a couple of the meds that he needed and gave a discount on some of the food we got from our local vet.

If it was a coon, he's lucky. Coons can kill a dog. Not sure about opossum, but they seem like they could do damage.

Coons are tough, mean little guys! I would have never though Simba would have got the crap end of that fight though! I still haven't had time to look the back yard over to see if there is a dead coon yet though. I'm thinking if my dog looks like that what does the coon look like.

I can already see the next thread. "How to dispose of trapped racoon?"

And sorry about the dog. Is his lip going to stay like that (permanent damage)?
